No more! Crackdown in Pattaya as new police chief lays down the law

Thai media reported that the new Pattaya police chief has laid down the law for pubs and nightclubs in the resort.

At a meeting ahead of the weekend 100 operators were told:

No patrons under 20 were allowed inside.

No weapons or drugs were allowed on their premises.

No human trafficking was allowed.

No opening outside of scheduled hours was permitted.

Pol Col Prawit Chorseng has taken over at the top after Pol Col Pongphanmaneethet and four deputies were transferred after prostitution was found in Soi 6 a few weeks back.

77kaoded said that the chief was acting on the orders of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) who took over the country in a coup in 2014 and have yet to be disbanded after national elections.

Thaivisa notes that the wording of the report suggests that Pattaya will be allowed to be Pattaya but that underage prostitution will not tolerated.

New police chief lays down the law. Didnt the last 1 do the same? His reign will probably be as short lived as the last ones.

  • But cocked and ready in case something goes down.

Pattaya and other A grade police  districts constantly change senior staff. Nothing changes except the faces.

Everyone has their greedy hands in the till.

The RTP is a Big Joke.  Remember him? Lol

What is the count of the police crackdowns of Pattaya's red-light district up to now?

Each one...every bit as effective as the last...????

Ministry of crackdowns are now on inactive posts all that was needed is one good Pol-Col and its back to world class????

It's what men have been coming to Pattaya for decades. It's got little more going for it than its nightlife.

No corruption is not allowed, no bribing is not allowed, etc etc. :passifier:

But...but... but... Pattaya is squeaky clean since only 1 bar on Soi 6 in ALL OF PATTAYA has been charged with prostitution.

Pattaya... clean beaches and NO prostitution... the perfect family paradise????

I am sure the new Minister of Culture will get to grips with this as soon as the cabinet gets approved later this month ????

Great job!! Now it's a really nice and family friendly beach resort with clean water, nice people, no visible prostitution, no drugs.

Let's take the kids @ Pattaya!!

New broom sweep well, goes the ald adage,, let's see when said broom will get a bit old...

must have understood the fable of the goose that lays the golden eggs

What's been said has always been the law, nothing new here, same lyrics slightly different tune. As usual. Photo Op and "seen to be doing".

Isn't that a grammatical error - the exclamation mark should be further on, surely it should be: 'No more crackdown in Pattaya!'

I think you are wrong, the ever reliable TAT assures us it is an international family resort....World Class!

you are right nothing will change, until they start sweeping inside the police stations, a friend opened a new bar and what happened, top brass sent one of his minnions along to negotiate a sum of money paid monthly, to quote !! *LEAVE YOUR BAR ALONE* total scum , all of them.

I’m all for the clean police reports. Technically there probably is very little actual prostitution in the bars. It may take place outside of the bars, but there would usually not be witnesses since it would only be between the two adults in a private location.

We also know a bar fine is to compensate the bar for taking the girl out of the bar, since she could be getting drinks bought, and that the payment is not for sex.

Anyway, I’m hopefully Pattaya won’t change in that regard, I like it just how it is.

A good example of "semantics".

Greetings,

What about smoking in the bars?  I meant to say smoking cigarettes in the premises should be banned since it's against the law!

I think in the coming days and weeks bars etc had better tow the line as you can rest assured there will be some high profile policing in the Pattaya area and maybe a series of raids as we have seen before. However once the new faces have established their place in the food chain it will all be back to business as usual. Well at least until the next time.

Always have someone near the phone for raid warnings (or ring up the police station) and have a fat brown envelope ready.

Pattaya is and will continue to die a natural death.  The Immigration crackdown for long stayers as well as the continuous turning away of people at the airports has  taken its toll on those who would come to the resort and spend alot of money on the drinks and the available 'entertainment'.

The police have harassed both the bars and the entertainment for years; but now they also harass the punters. Add in the filthy water' the foul air' and the lack of any entertainment that is fun based as opposed to money-money and people are turned off by the whole show.

The Germans came and went; the Americans gave up on the place; The Brits  are worried about the exchange rates as well as the Aussies; the Russians come in lesser numbers and apparently the Chinese have found out what all those before them have found out.  It's all smoke and mirrors. Oh that's right- the Indians will save the day!!

The constabulary and those in power might want to think about why so many Nationalities used to come in droves but don't anymore.

It won't happen- the truth hurts!
