Court case against PM unlikely to affect confidence in govt, says Prawit

Deputy Premier and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said on Monday that confidence in the government was unlikely to be affected by a possible Constitutional Court trial over Prayut Chan-o-cha’s qualifications to serve as Prime Minister.

 

General Prawit said he had no concerns about House Speaker Chuan Leekpai forwarding a petition from MPs of the opposition Pheu Thai Party to the Constitutional Court for a ruling.

 

The opposition MPs allege that General Prayut is unqualified to be prime minister in the wake of the March election because he should be considered a state official and this is prohibited by the Constitution from holding any Cabinet position.

 

“I’m not worried,” Prawit said. “[Prayut] can still perform his duties. I don’t think this issue will affect confidence in the government.”

 

He said the Ombudsman’s Office had studied the matter and found nothing wrong with Prayut’s qualifications.

 

Meanwhile, Senate Speaker Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said on Monday that Chuan, who is also Parliament president, simply complied with the Constitution in forwarding the petition to the court.

 

“We will have to wait for a judgment from the Constitutional Court,” he said. “The process is in line with the provisions of the Constitution.”

 

MP Ladawan Wongsriwong, spokesperson for the opposition Pheu Thai Party, on Monday called on Prayut to voluntarily stop performing his duties while the petition was under court consideration.

 

She said Prayut should be considered a state official and thus unqualified to contest the election as a PM candidate in the first place.

God, this is soooooooooooooooo nail-biting! I am on the edge of my seat, with heart a-pounding, wondering which way the Constitutional Court will rule. Will they rule in Prayut's favour - or will they kick him out of his office?

Anything could happen. I won't be able to sleep at nights over the next weeks - the suspense will just kill me. What will the Constitutional Court decide? Impossible to hazard or even imagine a guess .... all bets are off!!!!!!!

This to me is the crux of the matter, if it is correct.

 

Why is he where he is at the minute and why was he allowed to get there? One set of rules for all when it comes to political parties otherwise we will see what we are going to see with this new government from the get-go.

Of course not. There is nothing wrong with vacuum, because there isn't anything there that can be wrong. PM Prayut's existence is a natural-philosophy law onto itself. He is a divine intervention. Qualifications??? - he is doing us a favour being PM, when he could be the Moon for example (frowning down on us when we sleep).

Given Thailand's legal system largely lets the rich powerful do as they please, fatty is right.

Just one of many reasons.  The biggest one is he has no verbal skills in any language and has yet utter the word "freedom" in five years.  He is disgrace to Thailand.

From what I have observed it’s easy to see how it was achieved, firstly he had the coup with the support of the army to gain control.

Then they enacted some fairly draconian legislation to maintain control, finally stacking the senate to try and maintain control, plus of cause people actually voted for his party.

As a matter of interest did he have any involvement in the purchase of those so called bomb detectors or was only responsible for gardening tools.

I am sure many of you have been in quite some time. Don't you know all the actions by the Pheu Party, are directed  by Thaksin. If Prayut is disqualified,  Thaksin will totally run the Thailand even though abroad. What a farce.
