A Khon Kaen school director and teachers are investigating a July 10 incident in which Mathayom 3 female students daringly attacked their classmate during a dispute over debt collection in a classroom.

The attack, which took place when no teacher was present, was captured on a smartphone camera, shot by another classmate, who subsequently posted four video clips of the incident on Facebook, causing a stir and criticism over the violence perpetrated by the all-girl group.

The video clips showed a schoolgirl and 6-7 of her friends scolding a classmate because of an “overdue debt”, but the latter remained unresponsive so the group turned more violent to the point that they pulled the student by her hair and kicked her in the back, after which she fell to the ground. The group then banged her head against the floor. She didn’t attempt to fight back at any time during the attack.

A source who did not want to be identified sent the video clips to this Nation reporter, saying the incident took place during lunch break at the school on July 10.

The victim, who used to be close friends with her attackers, did not talk to any teacher about the attack until the video clips went viral.

The source said the school director and teachers were now conducting a fact-finding probe into the incident and handling the case delicately as it involved minors.

....acquired behavior....???

...seems like part of 'tradition' sadly.....

...a 5-year old next door....son of parents with the mentality of 5-year olds....cusses like an adult...

...in their presence....not a word to dissuade him or discourage him...

...guess they are proud that he is following in their footsteps...???

The girl owed all seven enforcers ? It could always be young girls coming up with a viral video idea, no debts, just acting for the internet.

The school director has not one thought about the delicate focus regarding monors. The only thing he is delicate about is to close the case as fast as possible and keep the information from spreading. Should fire his arse immediately.

Khon Kaen school beating resolved without charges

The director of a Khon Kaen secondary school confirmed on Monday that several girls in Mathayom 3 had attacked a classmate during lunch break on July 10 over a Bt4,200 debt that had been only partially repaid.

Weeradech Sata, director of Kaennakhon Witthayalai School, said the parents and guardians of all the girls involved had visited the school Monday morning to discuss what happened and had agreed that no charges would be filed.

The attackers’ parents apologised to the victim and her guardian, a senior relative, and promised it wouldn’t happen again, Weeradech said.

But disciplinary punishment would proceed against the assailants in the form of a penalty to be suspended as long as there is no more fighting.

Weeradech also apologised over the incident, which erupted after the victim was able to repay only Bt2,000 of the Bt4,200 she’d borrowed for an undisclosed reason.

He said his teachers learned later that day that students had been arguing, but only learned of the severity of the incident when they saw video clips of the beating that were widely distributed online.

No teacher was present in the classroom at the time.

In the videos, six or seven girls watch as a classmate scolds another over a debt. The accused remains unresponsive, so those around her pull at her hair and one kicks her in the back, knocking her to the floor. Someone else then bangs her head against the floor. The victim does not attempt to fight back.

Weeradech said he had instructed all teachers to monitor the school’s 4,270 students and pay close attention to those more prone to violence.

The victim’s guardian said she declined to file charges because all of the girls had been good friends, so they should find their own way to settle the dispute peacefully. She believed the attackers had acted on impulse, heedless of the consequences.

The guardian said the victim told no one about the attack. Her mother noticed her bruises and difficulty moving and took her to a doctor, but the girl claimed she’d fallen down stairs. The family suspected nothing more until they too saw the videos.

Does this make sense? If the assailants are suspended, who else will fight?

It seems noone even bothered to ask where these girls got 4200 baht to loan her.. or why that young girl needed so much money on loan in the first place.

A utter shame her family didn't ask for financial recourse to settle this. Perhaps if the other girls families had to pay some outrageous amount as settlement they would properly discipline their daughter so this would never happen again.

The penalty was suspended not the assailants.

Actions without consequences. How will they ever learn?

Thailand doesn't learn, neither do the education board.. which is why we continue to see these acts perpetrated.

I see little point shameing the parents,  What is wrong is students borrowing money and where did the girls get 4200 bt to loan out !!!!!.

Detention, naughty step, sit and face the corner, stand for 2 hours outside big boss office, these girls will breed  trouble for Thailand in the future, just like drivers there is no penalty for wrong doing.

i wonder again how did these young girls get this money in the first place i wonder if there caring parents have asked .

That´s what I wrote yesterday. The director is only worried about the schools reputation. Not taking care of business in the right way.
