Recently was a passenger in a Rivo Rocco and was impressed by the powerful headlights which despite having a screen tint gave a daytime vision . Does anyone know what type of light they are and is it possible to have them fitted to other cars e.g. Mitsubishi Attrage or is there a special base fitting . Failing that what is the best replacement bulb , I think they are a type H4 .

Probably LED or another type I can't recall the name, any ride can have them...Go to your local bling shop....There are some good vids on YouTube I suggest you watch first...There are a few different setups..

Rivo Rocco

Toyota Hilux Revo Rocco

All three major models have " LED Projector" headlights.

LED very common nowadays. Even fancy scooters have them and they can blind you terribly. I guess in contrast to the Revo they don't have automatic adjustment. So if a fatty is on the pillion they point to the moon?

Just get some Xenon/halogen 100/55w bulbs. Beam pattern is more important than brightness.

And when you get your new powerful lights make sure they don't disturb the opposite side traffic.

They will only do that if the light beams are not adjusted properly or one forgets to change main beam to dipped...

Or if the there is a lot of weight is the back of the car with the strong lights.

Unfortunately some people just don't care about other drivers and riders on the road. (just in general, this is not an accusation)

There is no or very little difference brightness wise between LED or Xenon lights have had both.

1 major thing between the two is Xenon take a long time to warm up with a delay of some 30 seconds before they reach full effect. Big problem when going from dipped to main beam.

Not to sure if you can fit Xenon if you only have a single head lamp. The ones I had fitted to my last lump worked fine as I had double headlights. 1 for dip 1 for main beam. LED will work on either set up.

The bulbs used in the Fortuner and certain Hilux Revo models are Koito H4 LEDs. You can order them as aftermarket parts from ebay.

My pals Fortuner is 3 years old , he also has the Rocco with great headlights . The Fortuner lights are basic and a soft light and same as my Attrage . His Fortuner is the basic model so maybe better lights with higher spec model ?

Options in Thailand from reputable brands are: Philips LED H4 which range from 2,000 to 7,000 THB and Osram LED H4 which are in the same price bracket. Other brands in Thailand are Chinese brands imported directly from China and sold at around 1,500 to 2,500 THB. Nothing wrong with these, but I would go for Philips or Osram.

Thanks Joe ,            Just looked at Osram and they are made in China as well , no surprise really but suppose their QA / QC  is an assurance of quality

Yes, and they do not burn out that quickly as well.

Think most stuff is now manufactured in China, that's why they are laughing at the West, they make all our stuff....????

I have seen that some LED manufacturers are giving 50,000 hour "guaranty"...Wonder how that works...

If you want a real improvement, you'll need a new projector installed in your housing, paired with new HIDs. I've had DK Xenon in Ratchapruek do it to a few cars here and been mostly satisfied (see below) with the results. Cost runs 10k thb and up, check out their FB page for examples. I'm a customer, not affiliated at in any way.

Not quite the same projector quality as a Morimoto from the US, but it's difficult to find those here. Most of the popular donor projector cars were also not that common in Thailand, so unless you import your own projector, you're stuck using what is locally available. The workmanship is also decent, not great. Wire seals are cut and sealed, not new grommets, ballasts are mounted via zip ties and tape, not threadserts. In their defense it's what most retrofit shops do, even in the US.

The only decent, standard H4 globes I have used are Osram Nightbreaker or Philips X-treme but bought in the UK. I have since changed to LED's which are much brighter but I keep the Nightbreakers as spares.

retrograding a headlight designed for point-focussed H4 halogens...

to run a splash of LED elements - downgrades a headlight, into a back garden floodlight.

(taken from the perspective of the blinded oncoming drivers)

Not all after-market LED lights sold in Thailand or online are cheap Chinese trash (see post #9 for example).

Not concerning about the quality; but the relatively bulky acreage of the individual elements...  no chance they can reachelp a suitable compromise when retrofitted into the assembly designed to focus a quality refined (philips) halogen. Same arguement against cheap halogen replacements too... no defined focus
