Pattaya tourism: Never fear the millionaires are coming!

A leading Pattaya hotelier has said that luxury end tourism is on the up and up in Pattaya.

Rich people can't get enough of Pattaya.

With the number of millionaires in the world increasing daily they will be flocking to Pattaya in the coming years, said Pornphan Rattanaphitaksakun, the manager at the Mason Hotel.

Villas there are being discounted to 'only' 9,600 baht until September.

Pornphan told Siam Rath that in the period of 2016 to 2022 there would be an 8.1% rise in millionaires around the globe.

It was not specified exactly what a millionaire was - but they were certainly rich.

The luxury end market for rich tourists is split into various segments - Pornphan said that 20% of it was the "special occasion" segment that she was concentrating on.

The Mason website also features a pre-wedding package including a photo shoot for 28,000 baht a night. This includes a bottle of sparkling wine and a replenished mini-bar. It even includes a romantic dinner for two.

While a couple getaway package for three days and two nights is priced at 41,999 baht ++.

Pornphan said that "Transparency Market Research" indicated continued growth in the luxury end market over the next few years.

Thaivisa notes that Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai tourism have been rocked in recent week by stories of a far worse than expected low season.

The optimism in the Siam Rath article regarding the high end market is unlikely to be much succor for most operators who are feeling the pinch.

First they were told that the Indians were coming to rescue Thai tourism - now it appears to be the "millionaires".

Yeah right, why would the rich go to soneva kiri in koh kood, Trisara and sri panwa in phuket or samujana villas etc on samui IF they can go to thailands biggest shithole called Pattaya.

There's plenty of high end hotels and resorts in Thailand but they are all FAAAAAR away from Pattaya, for sure not because those hoteliers are idiots and accidently overlooked the best location in thailand ????

Checked soneva as I'm looking for a small trip. I can go to Maldives for same price.

Exactly and pattaya ones she mentions are even more expensive.

So if i have to choose maldives or pattaya i know the answer already.

I am currently in Mauritius, it's safer, cleaner and cheaper for resorts here than phuket and co.

Just a pain to get to tho... And well no girl bar things here. More of a family destination.

But compared to thailand it's definitely worth the money, not to mention all resorts usually include breakfast and dinner here.

Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
Then one day he was shootin at some food,
And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.

Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.

Well the first thing you know ol Jed's a millionaire,
Kinfolk said Jed move away from there
Said Pattaya is the place you ought to be
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Jomtien.

Beach, that is. Swimmin pools, GoGo girls.

come again ?

Lol. Most millionaires are poor rich. Inflated assets, no high income. It doesn’t mean that much nowadays. Give it another 30y and 1/3 of population will be millionaire lol.

At end end of day what matters is how easily can you liquid your assets and how much income they produce.

agree

according to some rag in australia, every aussie is now a millionaire (house ownership/current value included to make up this claim). So perhaps pattaya tourism could do a tourism blitz downunder....sure to work.
