ICAO plans to help Thailand become an aviation inspectors’ centre

Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, president of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Friday.

Prayut welcomed Aliu, saying he appreciated ICAO’s advice and coordination to help Thailand improve its aviation security in line with international standards. The PM also expressed pleasure that the GACS symposium had wrapped up successfully, saying this was an opportunity for the development of aviation facilities and future cooperation in the region.

Aliu, on the other hand, thanked Thailand for hosting the symposium, adding that he admired the government’s efforts to improve and solve aviation problems constantly. He also expressed hope that Thailand would maintain the standards.

Thailand is one of the very first ICAO members to claim an improvement in aviation security and facilitation in line with international standards. However, Thailand still lacks inspectors, and will cooperate with ICAO to educate and train staff as it aims to become a regional aviation inspectors’ centre.

Obviously he hasn't seen the success Thailand has had in maintaining its road safety standards.

I understand he comes from Nigeria........... ????

misleading headline again; no plans from the ICAO to make an aviation inspectors hub, just a wish that Thailand keep improving.

How could this possibly fail ?

Let me know which airlines will use them so i can avoid them.

The above photo doesn't fill one with confidence.

At least they didn't say . .a HUB of excellence.

Its a start I guess.

So the guy from Nigeria endorses Thai aviation safety standards. Two aviation powerhouses, Nigeria and Thailand, entirely free from corruption and leading the 21st century in aerospace innovation and development.

Hmmm. Working a romance scam on the side?

The article doesn't mention "transparency" at all, but they use "standards" three times. Usage of "transparency" is way too new to be retired already in government speech, must be an oversight...

"transparent standards" is to be understood, one can see right through them.

As the Baht stands now--they have little chance of success.  Thailand is no longer a low-cost, high quality service economy.  Perhaps they could have a chat with Bank of Thailand before they kick this off...

Are they talking about aviation security or safety?

If they have no inspectors for "safety" where are the local airlines maintained?

Where are Thai aircraft serviced and maintained, if not BKK?
