If I go to another country on holiday for a week and get a local SIM, what happens to my Line account if I change my Line phone number?  Can my friends still reach me and vice versa?  Will everything go back to normal when I return and reinsert my Thai SIM.  I don't remember exactly how I registered my account.  I have a registered email, phone number and ID.

Whenever I travel I use a local SIM and my Line account operates as usual

You do change your number, right?

LINE is device based not phone number based. No issues swapping out SIMs.

You need a phone number to access your account, no phone number, no code can be sent, so no account access. Each number needs its own account.

No you don't.

I've swapped out SIMs multiple times in the same trip ... no issue.

You need a number to register the Line account initially. The number you are actually using at any given time is irrelevant as Line is a data-based service, not a telecoms-based service

So it would seem that once the account is established, the phone number is only used as another ID for new friends.  And changing it in the app is only for ease of use if the phone number is permanently change?

Check how you've set it up (e.g. ensure you also register an email address or, god forbid, a FB account).

Personally I don't give out phone numbers on LINE, use your display name, ID or the QR code.

I can understand that.  It just appears that after the account is set up, it is only used as another ID.

I only use it to send stupid annoying stickers to my wife, and as she is rarely more than 20 feet from me most of the time, it's not exactly urgent.

Yes, but the beauty of LINE as opposed to WhatsApp (which I much prefer) is it doesn't have to show people your telephone number. Once your number is known you can get spammed (at least I do, pain in the arse!).

But isn't your wife capable of finding more annoying stickers than you?  One thing I hate about line is the tit for tat sticker exchanges that go on and on and on.  The other thing I hate is that with multiple girl friends, it is too easy to reply to the wrong person at the wrong time.

No, I'm an expert at finding ones that wind her up, especially if she is a bit pissed at me for some perceived transgression.  I always follow it up with a smiley bear so that I don't get knifed in the night.

what ever you do, do not run LINE  a new number or you will lose all of your old chats on your old number.

... if you're dumb enough not to back them up previously.

That said, you still lose pics etc. on restoring so the so called "backup" still sucks. A backup of anything "should" include everything not have you back up media independently.

When son and his wife came to US for visit they used US SIM and lost nothing from Line.  There is no problem switching SIMs if you're careful and follow advice of knowledgeable users.  Record your LINE account login details before you switch your SIM and you will be able to access your same LINE account.

From Line support:

"Also, even if you temporarily suspend the phone number registered to your LINE account with your mobile service provider, you will still be able to continue using LINE. Please rest assured that this will have no effect on your friends, groups, chat history, and authorized apps (such as LINE Games and LINE PLAY). "

That's why I have 2 phones. 1 for wife, second for other people.
