Myanmar Visa Required?

Featured Replies

I'm planning on heading to either Myanmar or Cambodia next week, and I have been told by a few people that the border into Myanmar via Kanchanaburi is easily done. The thing is, I made the trip to Kanchanaburi about 6 years ago, made it to the border, and they said I needed a visa to enter. I hold a UK passport. Has that since changed, or did I just get a spot of bad luck or something?
Second question, do Thai nationals needs a passport to enter into Cambodia? My partner has been to Laos many times with me, without the need of a passport. Is this the same for Cambodia?

Yes you will need a visa. No your Thai partner can enter visa free for a limited period. Check out the requirements online. Applies to both countries you mention. Neither is hard to do. Myanmar tourist visa online or at the Embassy in BKK. Cambodia at the border.

Do you need to have Thai residency before you can apply for a Myanmar tourist visa at the Embassy in BKK?

Just get an e visa for Burma if that's your choice. It's an absolute breeze and typically issued within 24 hours and validity is 30 days same as embassy issue.

Official site is https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/

Thais get 14 days visa free.

You might want to check the weather in Burma before heading off as it's the height of the rains and there has been extensive flooding in the south.

Thanks for the info. Do Thais need a passport though, my partner still hasn't gotten one, we never get around to it for whatever reason.

Without a passport she will be restricted to the border area.

It's pretty straight forward for a Thai to get a passport and only requires showing an ID card and possibly house papers but don't believe the latter is required but ID card certainly is. Process is swift.

For Myanmar you can get a day pass instead of a visa. You can do it via a visa run company from Bangkok for 2000 with 1 meal included.

Didn't read it as a visa hop but if so no visa required as you state.
