The week that was in Thailand news: "Foot in Mouth Disease" and spending a week in the Dog House.

An enjoyable read as always...

'Foot in Mouth Disease' among public officials is always a favoured topic and my favourite player in the game was the first Canadian Prime Minister, Sir John A Macdonald (affectionately known to Canadians as "Sir John, Eh?").

Sir John, Eh? was an excellent Prime Minister, but was also a chronic alcoholic who was rarely sober after five PM, and in those days the Canadian Parliament often sat at night. There is a classic story of a young reporter assigned to cover Parliamentary debates, but who was flummoxed on how to cover Sir John Eh?'s rambling, drunken outpourings. One day, he decided to simply quote the Prime Minister verbatim and submitted an incomprehensible word salad without any editing and/or clean up. Sir John Eh? saw the article and when he next met the young reporter, he turned a sharp eye and said "If you are unable to write more coherently than that, you won't go far as a reporter!"

Got to love those old-time politicos...

An excellent piece of wit there, Wilde.

Reminds me of one of the characters in Phoenix Nights, who said to a passing girl: "Nice legs, what time do they open?"

Or closing for the week due to maintenance issues other openings maybe available at the vendors discretion????

Stuff that!
