CCTV from a restaurant in downtown Udon Thani showed the moment a thief made off with a British pensioner's phone that he had left on a table.

Udon Thani police were called by Nathamon the owner of the restaurant in Soi Prachanimit who said that this was the first time anyone had done such a thing at her place that she opened years ago.

The victim - Mr Martin, 68 - had been having a coffee with a couple of old mates when a man parked a motorcycle out front.

He was about 30-40, with a beard and a pierced left ear.

Police said that it appeared that the thief had been cruising around looking for a vulnerable old tourist to steal from.

They are studying CCTV in the area to try and get a lead in the case.

Out of the picture it looks like they will have a fair chance to catch this guy too, but he probably sold the phone and spent the money already.

CCTV:

In Mgronline, it's reported the motorcycle was stolen and they confessed to snatching the phone to sell in order to buy crystal meth to which they were addicted to.

I am at a total loss to ascertain why they steal iPads/iPhones and newer model electronics as they cannot break into them by way of passwords/fingerprint scanners. TIT????????‍♂️????????????

Perhaps, not everyone uses p/w or fingerprints.

But as you have assumed they do, hence the 'thai bash'.

Yeah and with much negative talk regarding the cops here, it's good to see such a performance.

Most do,and not only that 'find my iPhone/iPad can tell you exactly where it is to track them down.

Such a theft could never happen to a millennial as they would have their phone in their hand, skimming through FakeBook.

All is well that ends well.

Just to add....I would have thought that if one owns an iPhone, then having it nicked - or 'released from the shackles of ownership' would be a blessing in disguise.

????

Its real bad when a phone gets stolen, its not about the value of a phone though mine is expensive. But the data and the apps and stuff access to banks all needs to be placed back. Its a real hassle when you lose your phone.

I would wager that most do not.
