 Papa

you've gone awfully quiet .....

did your new bike come with service history ??

Sorry for not reporting for 25 hrs.

Went enduro riding this AM.

1.  papa has no new bike.

b. sent one back to BKK after evaluating it

4. rented one from PJ Trading, but not papa's bike, yet.

d. PJ had it serviced [oil, filters, new tires, new battery] but hasn't provided promised receipts, yet.

5.  papa will buy this tight bike within 6 days, regardless.  It looks and runs great ...

except left rear-view mirror screws need tightened & lock-tight.

& tires seem over-inflated.

Thanks for your concern.

Will try to do better.

Thanks for the photo ..

Pitty the snide chineese engine bars colour doesn't match the frame and taking the chain guard is frankly stupid !

just worry about you papa .....

worried you'll buy a "pig in a poke" .....

if its got no service history - walk away !

if you buy (with no stamped book) - when it's time to sell - You'll know first hand that KTMs are hard enough to sell as it is - let alone with no service history.

bought it 2nd hand and to be honest im color blind so i didn't really even notice that. thanks for pointing it out though.as for the chain guard. i found it too loud.

why do you think it is stupid ?

I bought the chineese copy engine guards for my Gen 1 390 - The poor colour match with the frame grinned at me every time i walked up to the bike - so in the end, had them sprayed gun metal silver.

When i got my Gen 2 390 - Went for the proper Power Parts ones and the colour match was spot on ! - Cost over double the price as the copies, but at least i was the one doing the grinning !

Just my ten pennyworth - i'd never remove the chain guard.... Worried about clothing getting caught in it and worse still the chain coming off and getting wrapped round my leg.

ps: i've lit a candle for Papa so he don't get burnt .. If anyone is interested in doing a midnight kumbaya - PM me...

is that a luggage rack on the back ?

Yes its a Zana "flip" rack.....

Can either have it in the above position of you are riding solo ...or can flip it over if you want to carry a passenger...

Very clever idea ( IMHO ) - had never seen one before....

first  below is from their website, showing the rack in the "flipped" position....

Of the maybe 20+ 2nd-hand bikes papa has purchased over the years,

only one has had service documents, the 2012 Nouvo SX with 1700 km.

Only one ($1100) was a lemon.

The rest were crackers.

PP:     Would velly like to get one of those racks !!

Are they available here or by order?

Made in India.        $58 there.

papa stopped by Pattaya Wrap today.

Not much into orange.

Maybe blue, or grey, but fancy pixilated camo.

B5-6000 baht quote.

The new tires already mounted are some IRC made ones

costing about B3000/pair.

Same like on new CBRs and MSlaz.

Okay but not great.

Poor reviews on wet pavements.

Maybe would like to upgrade to Michelin but not sure.

papa down for kumbaya.

Rack - Have to buy direct from india...they do black as well as orange .....

Wrap - You can get some really nice sticker kits for the duke 200 / 390 - ktm do a few ( see below) - maybe ktm pattaya are having a sale- Burn rubber did before they closed.... bought a few things at 50% off ....Also big choice on fleebay and the like, poss Lazada ...

Personally i like the original tank sticker that's on yours - although if it were me, i'd remover the "200" sticker......

Tyres -  You said the bike has done 8,000 km  ? i'm staggered the original tyres needed changing at that miles -  the 200's don't get the sticky tyres the 390 gen 1 got - i would have thought 15,000km would be about right (you say no history - so check chain wear / sprockets to see if they stack up to the miles on the speedo)...... as to IRC brand - personally i wouldn't - but if there are new IRC's on - you have to be a real fanatic to bin them and buy better replacements..... can get some quotes from i moto to get an idea of cost to see whats what.....

1. √'d already.  Seems to stack up and rest of bike is sweet condition.

Is it even possible to mess with those E-odometers?

2. Have gone down in the rain a few times on cheap tires;

  twice in one day even.

  Would like to find a new home for extant tires;

  like some Thai M-Slaz rider.

Maybe ask B800 then give proceeds to a charity.

3. Will do; those guys are great.  Need to get Dyna-beads installed anyway.

If it has the IRC iz model tires, I think they are a good tire.  They were a vast improvement over the stock IRC Road Winner's that came on my CBR.  They won't last as long, but they ride really smooth and have good grip although I haven't with them in the rain.

Never bought a car or bike with such.

Sold my new cars and bikes and they did have it - as I kept the records myself - bit anal but ...

Others - not so anal

First glance - if you know what you are doing - will scream out the problems. A second look - in depth analysis - will confirm.

Seen many cars and bikes we call 20/20 - look good going past you at 20 mph from 20 feet away

i wouldn't buy any s/h bike or car without full history - properly stamped in the book.

i've been around cars an bikes long enough to know that when it's time to bail - having fsh could mean the difference between selling or not. Strike that, cos every bike / car i have ever bought has had it !

i guess if you're selling a 15yr old shagger for the price of a plate of chips, it may not be so important.

I've had my 390 for 2.5 years, only 22,000 km as I have a couple other bikes. I'm very happy with it, basically trouble free. Not impressed with Ubon KTM but thats common.

The 200- 390s 2016, 2017 ? had troubles with displays they fog up. Many many were replaced. When they replaced mine at 3500 km they didn't know how to reset the odometer so I was back to zero. That may have happened to the bike you're mentioning.

At 13000km I put Metzlers on mine and am happy with them, good tires, not too expensive

The Pirelli Diablo Rosso Sports is what I wanted for my CBR150, but they didn't make them in the size; I would have had to purchase different sizes both front and rear hence my going with the IRC iz's.  I also bought mine at I-moto on your recommendation, good service, good price.

papa bought the bike today.

Will pay the final B10,000 when we transfer at LTO Wednesday.

I told her about papa wanting new rubber

and she agreed to give me B1000

for 'old' tires.

I-moto set me up with some fresh Pirelli Diablo Rosso Sports.

He said they were better than Michelin Pilots, which

at any rate, were made 14 months ago.

B4500 all in, including new stems and

installing my Dynobeads; 1oz front, 2oz rear.

He also wrapped up the old tires in clear membrane

so as not to soil papa's shirt when returning them to PJ.

Bike was much smoother,

guessing because old tires were over-inflated.

So spent additional $116 for the better rubber.

Papa does n't miss a trick...

I had Rosso 2's and then Rosso 3's on my motard, great tire - i'd change after about 7-8000kms....

Update on the Duke200.

Been riding her all around.

Very sweet running bike;

real nice cosmetically too.

Changed all 3 filters and treated her to Amzoil.

Installed bar brush guards,

Looks real nice.

Trying to think of a name for her, maybe...

Earl  ....  Marma-  .... Ellington  ...

For me a great bike is nothing if dealership support doesn't exist. Given the choice I'd also avoid imported bikes.

You get in an accident once on these things and you're in for a lot of headache, and that's when you wished you didn't buy a KTM. I got in a serious accident with my CB650F, two pages worth of parts needed replacing and it was fixed within 2 weeks by Bigwing Rayong.

If you live in India, Duke 390 is an incredible bike for the money, you can't walk straight without bumping into KTM spare parts there. But in Thailand? I'll stick to the mainstream brands.

True.

Parts are available, albeit likely a month + wait,

& can order independent of dealer.

My mechanic can bolt the parts on cheaply.

Luckily, papa has plenty other bikes to use in the mean time.

[ It's only a toy. ]

Bike is depicted in post #7, this thread.

Will try to get some photos up this week.

From one KTM owner to another - Looks Good Papa .....

Didn't think removing the stickers would look good...but it does .....

Didn't think the metal hand guards would look good - but they do and compared to the 4,000 baht KTM ones, you've had a result......

Like i said many posts ago - i've ridden the 200 Duke a while ago and for a 200 it pulls very well and not as lumpy as the Gen 1  390 .....

just got to get some riding done now .....
