Public safety has not really been a concern in Thailand since the Kingdom of Siam was founded, that's 781 years ago. Last night all the tables were full at the French Bistro 9. Even the Offshore, which has been in decline, had dozens of diners. Ned Kelley's busy as always and Belly's terrace nearly full. On the second day of returning to Vietnam, suddenly all the stress of Thailand expat living faded away. Having moved back to Bangkok last August and facing being hit with the sham insurance on my next extension, I'm considering moving back here and leaving behind the constant immigration and police aggravation. Retirement is supposed to be a low-stress lifestyle.

 

 

 

 

yes i used to drink in the red parrot and offshore bar there in vung tau nice place too i thought it was very good and nice people many older white guys there as was or maybe still is a oil town and red parrot was full of oil guys from uk . so places like that far better than pattaya for sure it was quiet when oil price went down but vietnam is the in place compared to thai rip offs now and value for money i came in 2 months ago to bkk on here it said expect 2 hours wait at immigration i walked up the ramp at 5pm afternoon it was deserted about 15 people there also chinese have there own gate  but empty and i was allowed in so all rubbish i saw about figures for sure .

Bar fines seem to have hiked up as well in most places as well as the other costs.  Drink prices are not cheap, even in the quiet bars. 

 

Lady drink prices were crazy.  The girls looked bored and disinterested overall, glued to their phones mainly. 

 

Go go bar girls are also looking large and frumpy and not that attractive for taking up that position.  Not much eye candy.  And they are usually regarded as the cream of the crop!  Some were shocking! 

 

Overall the night was expensive just for basic drinks, totally boring too.  The high Baht has made what was already pricey before even worse.  

And the news report is true that the bar demographics are not attractive to Indians and Chinese.  Go go bars, karaoke and Soapies attract high roller Chinese.  Not little side bars. Otherwise package tours with flag.holders. Indians want Bollywood style music and cheaper outlets in general.  

The few high rolling expats and two week 'millionaires' prop up the place a bit.  Retirees on limited funds are being sidelined and staying home!  There is a limit to what punters will pay.  And the ceiling is being hit.  Oh well.  Will get worse.

pattaya bars , far better attitude from ladies and service staff, drinks a little cheaper--ladies definitely not as cheap as a few yrears ago...

If they were do as you suggest they might not have to come to  Pattaya to get their wicked way with women. The same goes for a lot of the younger falangs who have to travel half way around the world to meet attractive young women.

I was not really referring to anyone dating working girls. if that is not what you meant then I apologise. but dating an ordinary Thai girl perhaps with the intention of seeing how you get on and hoping to take things further, as far as appearance goes, you should not turn up in shorts, or bearing too much flesh.

I literally just retired or semi retired this Thursday.  In past  years, my mentality was I would already be in Thailand or on an plane en route.  I been 14 times, and my last trip was this July-August.  But the thrill is a bit gone and I am going to chill in home Florida for a while, wait for after New Year plane prices to fall, and other prices.  Then probably will head out.  I do love the place.  Pattaya really is a pretty neat place, for me anyway.  Massages of all types, still plenty of decent girls, some nightlife, plenty of asian and western food, although many western places have changed or cheapened the ingredients, some decent pool halls, I love the baht bus as a way to get around, no need to risk motorbike driving on the "wrong" side of the road.  Not as attractive for retirement as when I first thought in 2004 on my first trips started, but still plan to go probably two SETVs each with one extension for 90 days, then home, then later another 90 days.  1/2 the year.  Won't have to do 90 day reports as I will be in and out about 88 days each time.  All issues are not show stoppers. 

 

  Sure do agree with the slow down though.  So many bars open and barely one farang sitting there chatting.  I remember when high season was quite an affair.

  Not all tourists are the same. They should have taken better care of the farangs when they were still coming in numbers. 
 The whole beer bar/nightclub scene does not transfer over to Chinese and Indians.

In 35 years of visiting Pattaya, the last 20 of which have been on a regular basis I've never met one girl who was not 'working'.

 

A couple of my friends have met girls through dating sites only to discover that they're also 'working girls'.

in Pattaya less and less bars every year

they are replaced by condo, hotels, malls, 7\11, ...or nothing.

3 smalls examples

Soi 10 was full of small beer bars, only hotels now.

The Base condo it was an unsuccesfull bar area some years ago beside the Apex hotel

soi 13\2 (Post office) was full of succesful bars and a very popular area

now only an handfull of bars dying in this street.

And i could go on with hundreds of others examples like that.

Three of the girls I dated in Pattaya before I met my wife had good jobs, and two of them had quite new trucks, they were probably as well of financially as me.

At that time I never knew anything about the bar scene or how it worked.

It all depends on where you meet them, I met one who has her own stall in Mikes Mall about 14 years ago, she is still there and I see her sometimes when I go to Pattaya. It is possible that any of them could be "working girls" but I would doubt it, as if they were, they would not have went out with me for free, even allowing for my looks.

Problem with non p2p girls is they just aren't as good looking, but let's be honest they all are looking for money in terms of car, house, general spending. The problem with free sex is it's expensive
