Hi myanmar specialists!

About two weeks ago I went to the kanchanaburi border for my visa exemption. The bus brought us to a "duty free" market kind of place where myanmar whiskey and rum were sold. It was super cheap. 350ml whiskey grand royal for 50 thb, mandalay rum 1000ml for 150thb. I wonder if myanmar whiskey is really this cheap and whether I can safely drink these. Worry abit, but thinking about it. Soju in Korea isn't that expensive too. So anyone got the real prices for these whiskey/rums?

Thanks!

I tried Hong Thong Thai rum the other day...

Mixed with cola, one sip was enough, my taste buds warned me of the potential cerebral catastrophe the next day. I refused to drink any more. I’ve never tasted meths or paint stripper, but I imagine it to taste like this.

Mekhong & Sang Som, also rough and brutal swill, nectar by comparison.

Drink this Burmese stuff at your own risk, trust your instincts.
The cost is nothing, but the hangover could cost a lot more !

Mandalay rum is very inexpensive in country and tastes very good
I always buy a bottle on my trips there

" Mandalay Rum dates back to 1886, and in its regular inexpensive local dark rum offering in a red-labelled bottle from the Mandalay Distillery, is surprisingly smooth & perfect to sip all by itself, pleasingly sweet but not overly so, with a lovely balance & without harshness.
