Toyota Convert-a-drive

Featured Replies

Toyota are due to bring out shortly their convert-a-drive models. The first one on the market will be the Yaris Convert-a-Drive model. These cars will initially only be sold in Thailand and the UK. If you are going from a RHD country to a LHD, you simply detach the steering wheel and the steering column and pedals will retract from the driver’s side and a duplicate set will extend on the passenger side then you simply re-attach the wheel on the ‘new’ driver’s side. Toyota say that the Yaris was chosen to be the first because of the central binnacle and its popularity. Other models will be made convert-a-drive in their next facelift. The models that have a driver’s side binnacle will be fitted with a dual binnacle/airbag combination so that when the steering wheel is removed the binnacle will rotate to reveal the passenger side airbag and vice-versa. The top of the range Camry models will be fitted with a dual head up display. There will be no additional charge on Yaris convert-a-drive until next year.

I am amazad at just how many people fall for these things every year. No doubt people will be wanting to order one. As they say there is one born every minute.

My wife will love it but they have to put complete controls on BOTH sides. Rather than just telling me how to drive, she can actually help. :o

BMW did the same april fools joke about 10 years ago with there 3 series. :o was a full page add in the papers

edit: come to think of it...it was more like 15 years ago! and it was more clever with a second instrument panel folding out of the passenger glove box!
