Bangkok, 31 January, 2020 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is delighted to confirm that the “GSB Thailand Open 2020 presented by EA” will take place from 10 to 16 February at True Arena, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, one of Thailand’s premier beach resort towns on the Gulf of Thailand, some 200 kilometres south of Bangkok.

Leading female tennis players from around the world will vie for top honours including a prize purse of US$275,000 (approximately 8.8 million Baht).

Among the top star players leading the field at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) championship competition in Hua Hin include Elina Svitolina from Ukraine, the WTA player ranking 5th in the world.

The WTA international event will also feature a number of global tennis players ranked among the top 50 to top 100 including defending champion Dayana Yastremska, the rising star from Ukraine; San Jose champion Zheng Saisai from China; Wimbledon doubles champion Hsieh Su-Wei from Taiwan; and US Open champion Samantha Stosur from Australia; to name a few.

Representing Thailand will include former World No.19 Tamarine Tanasugarn. She will be joined by Patcharin Cheapchandej and Mananchaya Sawangkaew, both received the wildcards for the competition from the Road to Thailand Open 2020 tournament.

Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, said, “TAT is proud to support the hosting of the GSB Thailand Open 2020 presented by EA, as part of our strategy to promote sports tourism, especially the types that attract international participants, including marathons, triathlons, golf tournaments, road bicycle racing, and tennis.”

All ticket revenue from the GSB Thailand Open 2020 presented by EA tournament, at a minimum of one million Baht (approximately US$33,000) will be donated to the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer Foundation.

Why hold such a high profile event in light of the coronavirus situation?  What would happen if even one contestant contracts the virus?

'nuf sed.

How will the charming females manage to play with face masks ? Rather irresponsble to pretend all is ok and to try and encourage people to travel in such times.
