Five young men - including two juveniles - are in custody after a vicious attack on a teacher in Nakhon Phanom, northeast Thailand.

77kaoded reported that the assailants were walking around scot-free after the attack before social media and press pressure made them give themselves up.

Weerapong Masuja - a computer teacher at a local college - was set upon outside a hospital. His helmet was taken off and he was mercilessly kicked in the head.

He is still in ICU.

Three men aged 20,22 and 23 gave themselves up this morning and bail has been opposed. Two aged 16 and 17 are in the hands of social services.

The group said they were out drinking when a bottle was thrown. They claimed they asked who did it but no one owned up. They thought Weearapong was responsible and later chased him on motorcycles before beating him up.

A video showed the young men being processed and fingerprinted at Phonsawan police station in the jurisdiction where the attack occurred.

Relatives of the assailants are discussing compensation while police wait on the condition of the victim before possibly adding to charges of causing grievous bodily harm.

Maybe TAT can use this in a promotion: Thai gangs of cowards don't only beat farangs! Be treated like a Thai. Rejoice!

Think of the hospital bill, ICU isn't cheap, someone has to pay for it, and getting these clowns to pay for it might teach them a lesson, on top of jail time, i.e. if the guy recovers, no doubt loss of income as well, gutless moreons, out drinking, yeh right.

Possible acquired brain injury as well

Hence the reason I said if the guy makes it, no doubt loss of income, if he does and recovers fully.

Sadly, if you go on youtube, you will find that 5 or more on 1 is pretty common in a lot of countries. Thailand doesn't have the market cornered on cowardly scumbags.

Ah was waiting for this... "it happens in other countries" remark. Yes its front page news every day here in the UK 5 men beating a teacher half or maybe even to death outside hospitals.... Phew.

Why the wait unless there is a good chance he may not recover because looking at the photo its ABH and GBH and even at the moment attempted murder as kicking in the head. Oh just remembered silly me "the size of the envelope".

Sickening. Poorly educated, unemployed youth, perhaps "dek waen" are usually the perpetrators in these kinds of incidents. They come from broken homes, father they have never known, raised by a single mother or their grandparents but left to their own devices upon turning 14 or 15 and completing formal education up to m. 3 (9th grade). Many are on drugs (usually yaba) which causes violent and unpredictable behavior. These street thugs should be thrown in jail and the key thrown away. That's the only language they know.

And many are from well off families, and they think they can do whatever they desire.

This fixes everything, ''Relatives of the assailants are discussing compensation''.

It is there that we can see that Thailand is not a State of Law;
In any democratic and especially civilized country, which Thailand is not (neither), there would be no discussion possible;
only a passage to the court would fix the amount of the penalties AND the financial compensation.

Why is it (farang?) always think some penalty is to be paid in these instances? TIT , the violence is seeming nonstop in Thailand.

Simply because in the Farang countries, this type of attack goes to court which will issue criminal AND civil sanctions

Sad state of affairs when it takes social media to get police to do their jobs!
