Visa extenson for Philippinos

Featured Replies

Two friends of mine from the Philippines came to visit me in Chiang Mai on March 9th.

Their return flight is for March 24th, but since Manila is in state of lock down, it appears they would have to stay in Manila in a hotel until April 15th, when the lockdown is supposed to end to travel to their homes.

However they don't have the funds for that.

Also it is not clear if their flights have been or will be canceled.

So they might want to extend their visa.

Does that mean showing up at Chiang Mai immigration with 1900 TBH each,  papssport photo, and their passports and get a 30(?) day extension stamped into the passport within minutes?

I believe Philippine nationals who enter visa exempt can get a 30-day extension on payment of 1,900 at Immigration. Since their current visa exempt entry expires April 7, this will allow them to stay until May 7.

Thank you.

Could someone confirm this?

I was going by memory in my last post. However, having looked at this chart, I am confident. Those under the tourist visa exemption scheme can get 30-day extensions, while those entitled to visa exempt entry only under bilateral agreement cannot. The Philippines comes under the former. No problem.

Thank you very much for looking into this!

That's good news for them.

And can they be sure that these things haven't changed due to the recent tightening of regulations re. the Corona virus?

No changes to apply for a extension at immigration are going to happen.
