Sorry to make you disappointed, but my personal record and "maybe" Jomtien Immigration record for an extension based on retirement is 1 min waiting at desk 8 and 3 min total sitting down until I got the number tag for the passport pickup next day. This was last year on a Thursday late May 1pm. When I stood up and checked my phone it said 1:04pm.

I have done this a few times and my papers were in order. The longest time at desk 8 is 6-7 min. Same time of the year every time. Always after lunch on a Thursday.

You omitted to tell us how you dressed for the occasion.

To get through in 4 mins you must have been wearing a hand-tailored suit, polished brogues and a bowler hat.

Im glad to read about the smooth visa renewals at Jomtien.

Mine went ok but I had a bit of drama.  A young guy in civvies on the customer side of the desk checked all my paperwork. I was going for the 65k monthly income method.

He said I needed a letter from my bank aswell as the account printout. I had one .. from Kasikorn bank .. in Thai obviously .. that the bank supplied. I could not read it. He rejected it.

A uniformed Officer sat nearby told me I need not go to my normal branch .. the Kasikorn bank in Jomtien will give you a letter.

Off I went. Found the bank .. had to wait a long long time ..l saw a help desk lady. I showed her my letter and said they wont accept it. Can you give me suitable letter.  She could not understand the problem but she guessed they wanted my bank book updated that day. It was updated the day before. Thats not what the IO had said but I had no idea what was happening.

They advised me to put in 1,000 baht and then withdraw 1,000.  Crazy way to get updated.  Add or withdraw not both. Got a photocopy of latest page in bank book.

It took me 2 hours .. and got me in a tizzy.

I went back. Saw the same young man .. he took the new photocopy of bank book.  With it was the original letter he had rejected.  He said .. yes thats the one I want .........l !!??!&$#!!!

i explained "its the same letter you rejected 2 hours ago". Grrrrrrrrr.

He said no .. I said yes. He got all defensive. I decided to be the bigger man and say dont worry about it.

Typing this on my tablet ..  keyboard taking up half the screen (as its meant to) and with that <deleted> advert taking up much of the remaining screen is hard  ....and its ... <deleted> annoying.

Just wondering why you would argue with him after he accepted the letter. Its not being the bigger man, its just foolish.

I didnt arque. I informed him and we moved on. It was light hearted banter. I was just relieved the problem was sorted.

What was I supposed to do ....not even point out his error. Do hours of worrying and confusion and ... bite my lip entirely. !!!!!??????

Interesting concept.  Your obviously a <deleted> saint. Im not.

I thought it might give one or two a smile / laugh. Was not expecting a flamer.

Why was it foolish !!!!!??

Go back to your couch to insult others.

Exactly. It's over, man. Move on. Have yourself a cool one.

You couldn't possibly win that argument and were just found annoying. Yes, you had been annoyed, but that's just you. ???? Mistakes happen, yes.

Sometimes you can't be sure that the problem was explained to you clearly or that you understood it clearly. Maybe the problem was actually the letter not syncing w/ the bank book as the IO expected. When in sync, the letter was correct. That is, after all, one of their (silly) requirements. The bank lady got it right, good for her.

Prepare for unexpected delays at Thai gov't offices. Have book to read, music to listen to, games on your phone, whatever helps you pass time in reasonable comfort. You might practice your waiting skills at Thai public hospitals. That's where I refined mine.

The monthly income method is harder to bring off. You did it, congrats on your new extension. Let's try to enjoy our coming year in LOS . . . if the lockdown is ever lifted!

NO.

The problem was he was taking call after call on his mobile and not giving my paperwork much attention.  I took it all in good humour till I mentioned it in a suitable thread months later to attempt to amuse not whinge.

I took it all in good heart. Zero whinging or arquement. Told the story to give people a laugh.

Then got couch potato'd.

OK then, but [EDIT] I wouldn't inform the IO that it's the same letter he'd rejected, esp not after he already accepted it. ???? Cheers!

Yes, it is good service everywhere now.

I went to the Government hospital for my regular 3 month eye (glaucoma) check and to pick up new drops. Normally there are a hundred people and a wait of 2 - 4 hours.

I was the only one who turned up! The doctors and nurses weren't busy and it was a thorough check-up. Normally they only give me 3 months prescription medicines, but this time they gave me 6 months.

Splendid service.

But I do wonder about all the normal Thai people with regular appointments. If they don't renew their medicines then they may be risking blindness or other symptoms.

Out of interest how much were your eye drops....i presume it was Xalatan? P{lus which Govermennt Hospital in Pattaya ?  Thanks

dunno if they still give these last two papers and make you sign them, but I included them anyway (easy just print out a copy with all the rest), and they didn't give them back. Adds to the paper pile. ???? My goal is try to ensure that I'm not asked for anything further, no copies, no sigs, no numbers, no nothin'. Not that I'd really mind, and I expect something new at any time, but it's playing the game to see if I can do it. I believe the IOs (on this desk, at least) would really prefer to save their time and your time.

  • The Acknowledgement of Penalties for a Visa Overstay - sign w/ phone#

Thanks for the report. Btw can you give a link to downloading of these two documents? I looked into the template thread on this forum but didn't see either, thanks. (I also recall that the IO would give out not 2, but 3 xtra forms to sign...so what's the 3rd one I can't remember.)

I'm presently taking 3 different drops as the doctor has chosen an aggressive treatment for my glaucoma at the present time (Xalatan, Alphagan and Cosopt). The hospital I go to no longer stocks Xalacom for some unknown reason). This is just a government hospital in Mahasarakham. Six bottles of each (e.g. 18 bottles to cover 6 months) cost 6000 Baht. My wife is ex-gov't so I am covered by her insurance and there is no charge for me.

There is a separate TV thread on glaucoma, to which a couple of eye specialists contribute, that is worth checking out.

Forgot where I downloaded mine last year, but here's a link for the Overstay penalties:

http://www.interprogram.ku.ac.th/newsite/images/overstay-page-004_Page_1.pdf

As for the Criteria, I had scanned mine from last year's. Jomtien had, it appears, modified that form for their own use to include the "report with bank book after 90 days" requirement at the bottom. GAG. Hence I now think it's best not to call their attention to that nonsensical idea in any way.

If they're not requiring the bank report now, yet their form still has that line, then it's likely that they're no longer using that form. So I'd say not to bother with it. ???? Please let us know if they are still using it, thanks.

Call it preemptive trolling of our trolls. Wind 'em up a bit. ???? Honestly I laughed when I threw that in there.

I'll be impressed when you can say the golf shirt had a Pine Valley or Banff logo.

Too specific for the effect sought. A successful horror movie exploits the fear of the unknown, the looming monster more threatening for being unseen, presenting no fixed target. Our peanut gallery has on cue lashed out wildly in all directions hoping to end the brain-eating suffering wrought from that idea. And that's just the shirt. Been fun. ????

So quoting Seneca and indulging in schadenfreude is your shtick? Each to his own.

Inevitable hysteria and silly bashing over a golf shirt richly deserves exploitation for entertainment purposes. But there's a bright side: the hope (futile, no doubt) that Seneca and the catharsis experienced by our self-important slobs may leave them with slightly more rationality. Then the thought of adopting more respectable appearance when they belly up to the IO desks may not be quite as scary as they'd thought. I trust you're doing your part.
