Curtain Pelmets, type of wood to use

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am looking at knocking up some wooden curtain pelmets..  I am wondering what kind of wood to use, In UK I would be using MDF but I am not sure if its available here.

I am intending to paint the pelmets with water based paint as is on the walls

Any advice on what type of wood to use would be appreciated

TIA

You can buy MDF in wood street with no difficulty, you may find it in the usual places Global House, DoHome, Thai Watsadu, I would probably use 3mm, 6mm, or 10mm plywood as it’s easier to get though MDF is also OK.

if you are going to use a water based finish you should seal the surface first with shellac to avoid the swelling you get from the WB finish.

These are using latex paint with a polyurethane coating on top.

Thanks for the advice.

I may look at using plywood as suggested if I can find some without wood grain lines as I do not want to see any lines in it once it is painted.

Thanks

Style! Valances are often kitsch while a the pelmets can blend into the decor.

Wood valances is what I remember as a kid we were poor there cheap and aesthetically ugly to me but everyone to their own.

Just get a good primer, you may need more than a single coat.

That says more about the workmanship and materials than the style.

While the colours may not be your choice, these hardly fall in to the categories you mention. ???? 241A386A-5D27-4AA5-8A9C-5E7861679005.thumb.jpeg.91e549de4a39300a02fd42ffd5e6d47f.jpeg56B95E83-BD04-4AE2-96AD-7C351E2C0431.jpeg.0cfbdc72b8a1026739d5a04cff8fe302.jpeg49BA2A15-214C-4F32-BFF2-DB496C5CA22F.jpeg.125292aa2ee3f0d4961d9a944f0ab425.jpeg

WE have dropped ceilings throughout with lighting concealed.......floor to ceiling curtains behind the drop.

For the regular size windows we have roman blinds.

All looks good

The pelmet style is irrelevant to the thing it is over. Your style is your style and choice. It would definitely not be one that we would choose.

The style that blends into the room while the curtains or blinds are open is a decor we prefer, yours does the opposite.

we have curtains where they work and blinds where they are the better choice.
