They won’t. Some will survive but it will never be the same in terms of numbers of bars or customers. It was scaling down before the pandemic, this has just accelerated it.

Pre CCP-Flu, bars, guesthouses, restaurants, etc have been closing for years - in direct proportion to immigration blocking their customers entering / staying in Thailand.  There were entire blocks of them boarded-up when I first arrived, which was due to the visa-exempt restrictions.

With each 'crackdown', more were forced out of business, including a guesthouse where my wife once worked.  We knew the staff, who said their last customers reported being grilled upon entry, and said they would be going to other countries in the future as a result.  Later, when we lived in her home town in Issan, several in the village who had lost their jobs reported the same story about their former employer's customers.

So many fail to recognize - often Outright Deny with furvor - the widespread destruction immigration has wrought on the country.

It would seem that self isolating i.e. keeping I 1/2 m away from other people and wearing facemasks is going to be the norm for a long time especially as there is a big chance of the second wave of more serious infections.

It's interesting to see which posters are extreme cowards.

Constantly living in fear of their lives, which in actuality were over years ago, and expecting everyone else to share their cowardice.

I don't take any precautions, at 65 it doesn't matter any more, my life was over ten years back.

Is going out for a few cheap Leo's (big bottles, naturally) and listening to the same grumpy old expats moan and whine about absolutely everywhere, classed as socialising??

Just you wait, there's going to be a whole new topic for them to whine about!

Self isolating and social distancing doesn't exist in or around the village I'm staying. The wife is currently 'socialising' with 'friends' as I write this. Oh, she'll probably be back before the 10pm curfew, not because of social responsibility, but for fear of being caught by the less than effective Poo Yai Ban security team.

I think you're living in a dream world if you think this social distancing will last. Undoing the lockdown and other measures to try and alleviate the pain is giving everyone a false sense of security.

It's 'I don't have it, I won't get it, the government is unlocking the country so the risk is minimal. Let's get back to how things were.'

Yes, some people are definitely crazy enough to believe that "the powers to be" intentionally did this to themselves because....?  No rational explanation.

Highly unlikely and very stupid.

A better and very smart way to think about it is "Disaster Capitalists will take advantage of weaker competitors and buy them out for pennies on the dollar".

Highly likely.????

I don't know the current numbers. But I am pretty sure there are more people in Thailand who are HIV positive compared to people with Covid-19. And how many guys keep that in mind when they have contact with the girls?

I know it's not exactly the same but fact is it's still a lot more likely to get killed by a car in Thailand compared to probably any other way to die.

Enjoy life! There is always a little risk involved.

I mean, what have you got to lose?
You know, you come from nothing
You're going back to nothing
What have you lost? Nothing

HIV and Covid 19 are nearly the same scam. the difference is that the sheeps are more stupid and manipulated now, and believe everything whats comming from the system media and the so much caring world leaders and governments.

When I was young, I loved to wear the mask of Zorro...wearing an N95 now, not so much...

Among the many problems with a face mask is that when I breath it tends to fog my glasses, so I can't see and I breath uncomfortably.

For this reason, I'd rather stay in the village, where there is none of this hysteria...life as usual goes on...

I don't go to bars to mix with elderly white men.

I'm hoping to encounter young, attractive (and easy) Thai women.

Hear what you're saying, but I've always thought one needs to 'socialise' with a few 'like minded' people sometimes just to get stuff off your chest and exchange views on current affairs etc, otherwise it's just all bottled up in planet you. I mean, there is zero point in talking with Thai's about that stuff is there.

And then there are people who ignored HIV and people who ignore Covid. Because for whatever reason they think they are smarter than everybody else. And why should they listen to experts?

Darwin is working to solve this problem...

I ignore COVID because ........

1) I think I already had it (along with 3 out of 4 of my family).

2) I'm prepared to take the 0.15% risk of death in order to live a normal life.

3) I'm happy for you to stay home and never go out again, in which case you'll be safe.

4) Living in constant fear of death is probably worse than death.

It's not a case of being an expert, it's a case of not being stupid.

As for Darwin, I've already had 5 kids, my life is already near it's and, I am ineligible for the award.

As for HIV,

My pal and I did ignore the warnings, had unprotected sex with many different Asian women.

He died of AIDs age 59, I didn't ......... in some situations, you just gotta be lucky.

Now if only I could get rid of those warts ..........

Unfortunately, that post comes across as exceedingly selfish...... don't know if that was intended.

I agree with you. It was ok for 4, 5, 6 weeks ... but this can't go on forever. The WHO can stay at home ... they have the money ... not everyone in the World can. People start to go on to the streets. I really hope for the countries who lose restrictions, that is goes ok ... and all follow.

1) You "think" you had it - very scientific

2) I live a normal life. Wearing a mask and keeping a distance is no hardship.

3) I go out all the time, and why not?

4) Who lives in constant fear? Relax, enjoy the time, and be careful. It all works together without problem.

Carpe diem

P.S.: Normally you seem to be a lot more relaxed. What happened?

As the Thais say, if you aren't my family and I've never met you, why should I care if you live or die?

I'm guessing you don't speak Thai and have little contact with Thai people apart from the woman in your bed who probably isn't interested in talking with you.

Unfortunately, as history shows, once restrictions get accepted by the population, they are unlikely to get lifted.

I hope i'm wrong.
