Was talking to a couple of friends recently about living near famous people.

My best friend, who live along the road from me, lived next door to Willie Miller, the best defender in the world at the time. On the same road, but opposite was Sir Alex Fergusson, after he had won the European Super Cup, Cup Winner's Cup, Scottish league etc. Annie Lennox lived in an adjoining street.

Peter Mullan lived nearby. He was 'Swanny' in Trainspotting, Braveheart, Ozark etc. I was scared of him and maybe the most famous person to punch me on the nose ???? as well as the lead singer of The Exploited, who drank in the same Edinburgh pub.

The most famous guy at my was school was Lord Byron, the Romantic poet, but he was a few years above me!

Any famous people in your childhood neighbourhood?

I had Vinnie Jones as a neighbour opposite for a couple of years.  Didn't live up to his hard man image when we went for a drink together. Even when confronted by total strangers coming up to him and posing crazy footballing scenarios he was cool.   Altogether decent guy.

That's cool! i heard he was a nice bloke.

........................... or just get punched less........................ Swanny AND the lead singer of The Exploited,

Nearly got one from Willie Miller too after throwing a bucket of water over his kids, who were making a noise in the garden. He came to my mate's front door very upset.

Dennis Amiss lived round the corner, his garden backed onto ours so sometimes had to go round to get our ball back.

I caddied in a pro celeb golf match once for Kenny Lynch. Douglas Bader was also playing. Shortly after that we started saying "that was a Douglas Bader shot" when the put didn't have the legs.

Actually, as my school is 750 years old, there are probably a few other famous alumni.

Aberdeen Grammar or Harrow?

in the 60's we lived 4 in a block ( 4 x 3 bedroom houses) on Dickens Ave Clydebank, above us were the Bannantynes, one of them went on to become famous ( Duncan). While waiting for my highschool to be rebuilt we had to attend a catholic high school, across the road (douglass st) was the Douglas Hotel, this had a public bar, the bar was turned into the Port Sunshine and features in Trainspotting 1.

A number over the years but currently Tyson Furey (a distant relative) lives in the next village to me and drinks in my local. Used to train in the same gym before I left the UK. Another gentle giant.

Steve Adler, mayor of Austin Texas. Schoolmate. He was a nerd running for school offices back then but I think he became more liberal with age which is kind of unusual.
