I agree, one of the major problems with Ducati motorcycles in Thailand is a dearth of available service agents

yeah could be a deal breaker, I am 200km from ducati in phuket

that is a bit far ...

North or South ?

there is a dealer in Hat Yai going south and a dealer in Hua Hin going north, from Phuket that is.

guess I want something that can go more or less anywhere I want to, but not too fast, and not too slow.

What about one of these........I have done a few long days on my Crf250l talking 600 km and a few multi day long distance trips it’s capable of doing it but not the most comfortable bike and your pretty much wringing it’s neck all day long,, bigger engine size and comfortable bike obviously a lot better.

huge selection of bikes to choose from now, depends how much off road you actually gonna do,,,most bikes apart from sports bikes can manage the gravel dust tracks,,,actual proper off road and the bigger bikes are a bit of a handfull.

I will have a look at it, maybe get a test ride. I have tried a few adv bikes before, 1090, 1290 adv, 990. I didnt like their wallowy nature, but I guess that bouncy suspension makes them comfy.

Everything is a compromise with bikes.

I have a test ride booked next week on the CRF250L anyway ????

The girl there told me that the new "KTM Thailand" importer is about to launch

Oh I thought KTM had left, if they are coming back I might have a look, but still in phuket I would be 200kms away, up towards surat thani. That might be annoying for getting servicing done. Practicality might force me away from KTM/ducati.

My last bike was a KTM, I do like them, but no fanboy. In the UK I am 20km from a KTM dealer, they would always lend me a bike when I dropped mine off for a service. Will thai dealers do the same?

edit: oh but wont KTM be subject to import taxes? That makes them a no deal for me.

Assume they're referring to Chumphon, given the distance stated.

Where's the dealership in Hua Hin?

you head out of Hua Hin towards Cha Am and it is on the left hand side of the road a few clicks out.

Its a big building.

Thanks. I'll pay attention next time I'm there.

Does anyone have experience with the Ducati dealers in Bangkok? Just bought a used scrambler cafe racer and it needs new tires and I would also like to give it a general check up. Any preferences between Ducati Rama 3 and Ducati Vibhavadi? I am basically located right in the middle between the two, so distance does not really matter. Thx

You're better off going to a specialist tyre shop for the tyres, more choice and cheaper. I found Vibhavadi to be very good for servicing, I had my Desmo 24,000 check done there last month. Just make sure you tell them to contact you before they change any parts. I did have one occasion that they changed something without asking me first which I wasn't very pleased about. Once told to follow this rule they are good IMO.

I went to Rama 3 intending to buy a 796 once and was treated quite poorly because I was dressed very casual that day. That was quite a while ago though and was likely just a "rogue" salesman. Not sure about their servicing.

Usually the motorcycle dealer garages don't have tires and also not the equipment to change a tire.

If you take the bike there to get new tires they will either just tell you to take the bike to a tire shop, or they take it to such a shop for you and add a premium for their time.

A big tire shop in Bangkok would be 29tire.

Agree with this, i've had a couple bike serviced at Vibhavadi, very happy.

I did a couple of test rides today.

Honda CRF250L. Nice bike, more power than I was expecting, I didnt find it really lacking at all, at least up to 60mph, which is plenty for me. Vague front end as expected. Suspension nice and comfy, seat not so comfy. I would not be unhappy to end up with one of these.

Honda X ADV 750. Nice bike. First time I have tried a scooter type thing. This had plenty of power, suspension much stiffer, definitely a road machine. It felt nice to stretch your legs out in front. I am really tempted to look at more scooters just because you have all that space under the seat.
