International calls to Russia

Featured Replies

Hi! I'm Alex from Russia, I have moved to Thailand this year right before the corona outbrake. I have parents left at home and they are not really into technologies and fancy devices, they don't have smarphones with internet or wifi, just landlines and old basic non-smart phones (Nokia 3310 like). I would like to call them from time to time to keep in touch and check on them as the situation with corona in Russia is not very stable and I really worry for them and their health. I tried using my cellular network but the price seems too high for me. I have tried using several apps and currently stuck to Yolla app. I am using it for about a week now, their price for landlines is fairly okay for me and they have some other functions I find useful for me. Has anyone used the yolla app before, does it have any cons? I am already a little bit tired from switching between different apps and I want to just have one that I will be using for a long time. Can anyone give feedback on it?

Skype.

I agree, Skype for mobile with auto top up. I was stuck in Thailand after my Etihad flight was cancelled 4 times and Skype was awesome.

lol...skype needs internet (at least I thought it did), and likely not gonna help in this situation

Skype to landline works fine. The op has internet, its the called party that doesn't.

Hi! Thank you all for for recommendations! As for Skype, I personally don't have really good history with it, I stopped using it about several years ago...Don't know if it is related with me being in Russia at that time or anything else, but I got constantly spammed by scammers with suspisious links, shady investment offers, fraudsters, casinos, offers from sites with prostitutes and other stuff like that. At some point I got so disgusted and tired of receiving these messages and blocking the senders every now and then that I uninstalled Skype on all of my devices. Don't really want to get back to it again. I don't have any friends or relatives using it anyway.

I actually need just a simple app for calls without chats and stuff like that. Yolla seems okay but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experience with it to back it up or talk me out of it.

+1 Skype out, you can call from Skype to their landline or mobile it's about 2 to 3 cents per minute.
