PHUKET: The Phuket office of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket) has announced a plan for the government to develop an international medical centre to be built on 140 rai near the Phuket Check Point in Tha Chatchai, at the northernmost tip of the island.

PR Phuket announced the plan in a post on its official Facebook page today (June 19), saying that “reporters” had explained basic details of the project.

However, The Phuket News had previously confirmed from a source that the concept was discussed on June 4 at a meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall attended by 16 consuls and honorary consuls in Phuket, but was unable to obtain any official confirmation of the project.

Phuket plans ambitious project to emerge as international medical hub

Phuket has proposed an international medical services project on 140 rai (224,000 square metres) of land to make the province a medical hub.

A Phuket official suggested on Thursday that "developing an international medical and public health services centre would ensure safety and value-added tourism". The proposed project will tap state property besides the Tha Chat Chai Police Station in Thalang district for a total of around 140 rai, some 16-17 kilometres from the airport.

The idea was conceived due to the Covid-19 outbreak which has severely damaged tourism. Locals are seeing hardly any recovery even after the government has lifted all strict measures, as tourists will practise social distancing until a vaccine is found.

Officials believe that this project will help Phuket have a strong appeal in the long-term.

I have lived in Thailand a very long time and have had to utilize various medical establishments over the years..from local clinics to fancy international hospitals..like anywhere else there are good doctors and bad doctors and its a crapshoot finding the right one for your particular needs...as a foreigner  have learned that you have no recourse should anything go wrong..absolutely no protection whatsoever...and the worst part is the manner all of these hospitals prioritorize things...its all based on how much money they think they can get out of you and very very few places will place your well being in the fore front

Regional Hub

Regional Hub of hubs 5.0!

Most private healthcare in Thailand is now on par, price wise, with healthcare in many European countries, it might not be interesting any more.
