Seven groups of foreigners expected to be allowed entry

The government plans to allow seven groups of foreigners to enter the country, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, announced today (June 22). The committee has divided these into two main groups.

The first group may not include those under the so-called “travel bubble” international pact as they may be required to undertake state quarantine on entry:

1. Businessman and investors (around 700 have registered to enter).

2. Skilled labourers and exporters who need to inspect factories or for specific business purposes (around 22,000 have registered).

3. Foreigners married to Thais, or permanent residents of Thailand (around 2,000 have registered).

4. Medical and wellness tourists (around 30,000 have registered).

The other group comprises travellers who won’t need to go into quarantine on entry:

1. Businessman on short-duration stays, including those coming into the country for business discussions. This group might need a specific area and intense screening both before travel and at arrival at airports. Considered a “power group”, these are entrepreneurs who will visit the country to sign business contracts or inspect sites or factories, which is essential to the economy.

2. Government guests who are invited for ceremonies or specific seminars.

3. Tourists under the travel bubble. Dr Taweesin said that the target countries are China, Japan and South Korea, which are presently trying to contain the virus.

The CCSA aims to discuss the issue in depth with the Cabinet after finalising the details.

Have worked it out:

Group 1 people who are easily fleeced as they have no option but to come

Group 2 lucrative groups who have a choice therefore much harder to fleece

Seems about right and par for the course....

All countries are more or less trying to contain the virus, just going different paths.

Off course the chinese get special treatment, what a surprise?

You think that retirees stuck abroad have a choice ?

Most have all their life in Thailand! (family or friend, house, belongings, ...)

"...which are presently trying to contain the virus."

The other countries aren't? This is the weakest possible explanation.

I now invite those who scoffed at me when I formerly predicted that we were headed to a situation in which Chinese arrivals would not be asked to quarantine but we would to please retract your scoffing. I'll wait.

Better test them all for the virus. They better know they face potential quarantine.

How can they dare to maintain China in the list of the ''safe'' countries

with the last events in Beijing ?

Seriously?

Less than 200 cases in 10 days in Beijing...  (USA ~25'000 cases yesterday only!)

in a city of 20+ millions people...

in a country of ~1'400'000'000 people...

A lot of noise for very few cases well controlled... IMHO.

It is very weird. Countries like Austria that have been successful in containment. Slovakia, Czech Republic for example in Europe that have had less cases than Thailand are not listed.

Countries with increasing problems such as China, Japan, Korea are listed as safe..

What a farse... It just proves that the higher powers in Thailand have got brain cell deficiencies.

Having more than 100 cases daily isn't called trying to contain the virus.

You can look at their daily chart here.

True but not many people from these countries come to Thailand as tourists.

The top five arrivals by nationality in Thailand for 2015 to 2019 are

China

Malaysia

South Korea

Laos

Japan

I don't know why they haven't considered Malaysia and Laos yet.

Yes a lot of money for very few sino thai people

who have already a lot of money.

The famous 1 % owning 70% of the wealth of Thailand.

Everyone else, most of the Thai people, me and probably you, have only the downsides

Poor choice choosing to retire in Thailand given current circumstances.

I guess those stuck outside on retirement visas will not be coming back anytime soon...

Maybe time to plan a move elsewhere if able?

200 cases according to whom? Chinese government released "facts"? Yes, it is common knowledge, that Communists (even if to some degree in name only) / authoritarian regimes in general, are the most honest people on Earth. Especially the mainlander Chinese.

Do you have an unbiased 3rd party source, which confirms these numbers, and is not dependant on "information" obtained from the Chinese government?

According to the Chinese government the latest "fresh meat" market outbreak was probably due to Norwegian salmon... Sounds totally credible, just like their 200 cases in Beijing...

Hmm, see the Australian ABC published an article today lauding the Thai corona response. As such would suggest these countries will at some stage instigate one of these bubbles, not first on the list for either, but near the top. Again this will be determined by no large sets of cases popping up.

The lying media of course are all screaming that a second wave is upon us, however the facts don't agree, firstly as hospital and death rates are either static or falling, plus corona is not a flu virus as per the Spanish flu, don't recall SARS 1 ever having a second wave. This should eventually just fizzle out.

Are you saying they are back to the numbers?

In the last news, Thai authorities claimed they were on the quality and healthy tourists now

and they didn't want more mass tourism as in the past,

i am confused now

Lovely move! I had been waiting to see how they would do this. Get the Chinese in without the need for quarantine.

So simple, throw up little smoke screen of including Japan and South Korea.

Brilliant

Guess Taiwan couldn't get on the list. The Master would be displeased.

No-one asked you to believe them if you're so Sino-phobic, just the people who matter.

If you're from USA or Europe and currently in Thailand on a Non-Imm OA visa or extension of stay, any trip out of Thailand may end up being for a VERY long time, AND you will probably need very high health insurance cover whenever you are allowed back in.

Biggest losers are the Expat retiree and fathers of Thai kids. Now how can the despicable Chinese be ok and better above those 2 groups? And yes for the most part the Chinese are unworthy of this decision.
