Surat Thani cockle farmer involved in dispute with fishermen dies

A 62 year old man in dispute with fishermen stealing his cockles raised in an area out to sea has died. 

 

Surat had spent 3 million baht on his cockle farming business only to see fishermen think they could help themselves.

 

His relatives said that he had died out at sea from the stress during a dispute over the crustacea. 

 

The disputed area is off the coast of Surat Thani in the south.

 

His surviving relatives have called for the authorities and the provincial governor to step in and help the family and the cockle farming business in general.

Thats the Thai way isn't it , if you have something good then they will want to take a share of it

Nothing to do with taking someone elses stuff, the so called farmers were using area of the sea to raise there cockles but the sea doesn't belong to them it is public domain. The so called farmers least areas of the sea from some big shot who told them it belonged to him. These people paid money for something that didn't belong to anyone, talk about greed.

Doubly sad then, sad that someone's greedy enough to con some poor folk into paying for a piece of sea, and doubly sad that they were stupid enough to fall for it, and then the old guy dyeing over it is even worse, probably spent his life savings on it. No doubt the big shot thought the whole thing was highly amusing ????

Cockles are not Crustaceans, but Molusca. Why do we always see stories written by lazy idiots? Education, education. If you cannot do that, at least use google.

They cant, this part of the sea is public. However they think they are protected by someone higher up. This is also why the navy is not removing the cockle farmers. Typical Thai corruption.
