Thai driving: Woman smashes up the DLT - on her TEST!

A Thai woman behind the wheel of her brand new red plate pick-up was fined for negligence after she smashed up the center where she was taking her driving test.

Aged in her mid thirties, the woman smashed into a parked car, then plowed through a wall of an office at the Department of Land Transport at That Phanom, Nakhon Phanom, north eastern Thailand.

DLT chief Sitthichai Sukhwiphat said she mistook the accelerator for the brake while she was on a ramp heading to the test area.

She agreed to pay for all the damage and is being fined by the police.

She was told to go away, get some experience and come back for another test.

Sitthichai said that his tests were carried out with safety in mind.

Medical certificates could determine if someone was fit to drive but the real question was how much experience the applicant has; that needs to be determined in a practical test.

  • And they failed her for that, the tests must be getting tougher.

That's the trouble with manual vehicles - 3 of those silly pedals to choose from

Took two Thai relatives for their test (Chaiyaphum) both failed.   Neither could drive steadily, neither could parallel park, one of them hit the curb driving along a straight section.

I would have thought that as long as you can find the door to get in the car then that would more than enough experience for to take a practical test here.

Hope she doesnt do what normally happens here, and just drive on the roads to gain that experience!

If that vehicle was brand new this is a very old story. Nissan stopped making that in about 2000.

Unless that is collateral damage.

Can we be notified the day before her next rescheduled appointment?

Perhaps  people should be worried  about  just  where she  goes  to get "more experience" !

Both paid 1000 Baht to the 'man' then went off to pick up their licenses.

Job done.

We saw two accidents driving home.

The driving test lady that conducted the driving test I went on must have been multilingual, she split the attendees into two groups, one Thai, the rest farang. She spent about 10 minutes explaining the course to the Thais then turned to us and said "farang, you fail, go home"

brake failure or wearing high hills

But would she be covered by the insurance to begin with as she does not have a license?

Just make sure you don't park your car near there.. ????

She got confused over only 2 pedals to choose from

Bit harsh failing her for that.  She's just replicating what she sees every day on the roads and thought that's how you're meant to drive.

Brake failure of course.... the manufacturers clearly put the accelerator where the brake pedal should have been !:coffee1:

Come on man!

It's clearly stated as a brake failure.

She neglected to press the brake pedal.

Just more wild speculation on your part Grumpy. ????
