There was a big jump in new Covid-19 cases after 15 Thais tested positive in state quarantine over a 24-hour period, the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Friday (August 7). It was, however, the 74th day without any domestic cases since May.

All the 15 new patients were asymptomatic, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, CCSA spokesman, said.

Four men had returned from Egypt and were found positive on August 5 -- there were five previous cases on the same flight -- 10 men had returned from Saudi Arabia and tested positive on July 25 -- there were two previous cases on the same flight -- and a 29-year-old freelancer who had returned from Japan was found positive on August 5.

As of August 7, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 3,345 (300 in state quarantine) -- 139 are under treatment, 3,148 have recovered (96.11 per cent recovery rate) and been discharged, and there have been 58 deaths.

Globally, the total number of confirmed cases reached 19.2 million, up by 282,000 on Thursday, with 12.3 million recovered while deaths stood at 717,000.

Thailand is 112th among countries with most number of cases; the US tops the list with 5 million, followed by Brazil (2.91 million) and India ( 2 million).

The three countries account for half of the total global cases.

Why is the Thai government only including positive tests from July 25 in their tally now as of Aug. 6???  10+ days later after the original positive tests?

1.  It is not just how many that contract the virus die.  It is also about how long they must be treated in Hospital, What affects to Heart, Lungs, and other organs (sometimes also limbs).

2.  The virus also has shown detrimental affect to the Brain.

The BP noted that the Saudi returnees tested positive on Wednesday (5th), the 11th day after arrival. The 25th was the arrival date. The Nation............

Ahh.... the old numbers/math/dates bugagoo strikes again.... :cheesy:

But lately, wasn't there some word from the supposed health authorities in the world that 10 days quarantine was supposed to be enough for those without symptoms?  And some places were changing to that shorter period... though I personally wasn't inclined to believe it.

Ahh... the new 10 day period was a CDC recommendation for people who had positive CV test and then had no symptoms. They were supposed to be free from isolation after 10 days in that kind of situation.

Quote

For persons who never develop symptoms, isolation and other precautions can be discontinued 10 days after the date of their first positive RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 RNA.

All viruses can have detrimental effect to all organs, even the Flu.

Detrimental affect on the brain. It’s clearly been running rife within the halls and echelons of Thailand’s political establishment given the constant unending stream of dribble that pours forth

In what appears to be small minority of patients.

Even a common cold or something as inane as chickenpox can cause conditions like GBS, myocarditis or cardiomyopathy.

Every infection has extreme but often rare risks associated with it.

Never mind the date  More important, were these 10 Thais tested before they boarded the plane.as every one else on the plane could have got infected. It looks like a case of letting the arriving airport have the responsibility for then.

I don't think Thais being returned on repatriation flights are required to be tested, just a fit to fly document from the Embassy. They are not under the same regulation requirements as other Foreigners. This is a time bomb if they continue on like this as the open more categories of foreigners to entry Thailand.

It goes to show how important solid quarantine prefigures and accommodations are. Now what about the others in quarantine, were they exposed? And the people who drove them there?

The proof that borders need to remain closed to tourism.

What is interesting is the number of positive cases coming from countries with supposedly minor epidemics. Unfortunately, for large parts of this world under reporting is significant - either due to inadequate testing, under resourced health services and most probably political interference.

The rather abnormal steady level of cases and deaths in Iran was always highly suspicious to me, and recently evidence has been leaked that the real number of cases and deaths is actually about 100% higher.

Leaked?

The president kind of spelled it out.

Has he not already ranted on about us being dirty and bringers in of the virus?  However, when it comes to Thais found to be doing so there seems to be a great crash of silence emanating from his mouth or is he beginning to use it to eat humble pie, in private, of course.

'nuf sed.
