Not a single flag officer has come forward to speak in support of 45. Even John Bolton, whom many are claiming clears 45 of something totally in 45's character, only said he never heard such statements, not that the statements are not true. Bolton is not calling the Pentagon sources liars. The silence of flag officers is actually a very clear indictment of 45.

 

During the WWI commemoration, when 45 was supposed to go to the French cemetery, Canadian PM Trudeau did go, in the rain, and without an umbrella. When told to cover up, Trudeau said, "these men went through much worse; I can take a little rain". THAT is respect. 45 last week claimed 'I called Melania back in DC and said how disappointed I was I couldn't go."  In his obvious lie, 45 forgot his wife was with him in France.

 

Folks who on occasion brief 45, such as from the intel community, have heard such statements. 45 always makes flippant comments and shows precious little interest in matters of national security. I don't anyone in the IC is a Goldberg source, as his are appear to be Pentagon people. When 45 was briefed on the intel about putin offering the Taliban bounties on US soldiers, 45 virtually ignored the briefing and showed zero regard for the men and women serving who might fall prey. 45 changes the subject or starts asking "why is nobody talking about China?". 45 even raised China as a source of the Navalny poisoning, which is ludicrous. Like that line from Brokeback Mountain, 45 just can't quit putin.

 

Those flag officers who still have contacts inside the Pentagon know full well that 45 couldn't care less about US Troops.  Even before the reprehensible comments re Sen John McCain and McCain's POW record, 45 has a long personal history of statements that reflect a lack of respect for people who choose to serve. Adms Mullen and McRaven, Gens McCaffrey, McCrystal and Dunford....they know.  Col Jack Jacobs, Medal of Honor recipient, stated on TV a few days ago that his Pentagon contacts have corroborated everything in the Atlantic article. Col Jacobs was almost in tears speaking of the military's firm rule that 'we do not leave our people behind', and that this is drilled into troops from Boot Camp onward. To have a POTUS say, "why bother getting people back? They messed up so leave them" is anathema to those who serve and will put doubt into the minds of men and women now joining the military. It is an astonishing betrayal of those who willingly serve.

 

The Atlantic author said he has more sources and more material that will be released in time.

 

This is resonating with those who served, less so for those who like 45 never did, and who have absolutely no concept of what it is like to go into harm's way on behalf of something greater than one's self.

More like four news outlets, each with its own set of anonymous sources.

Add Fox New's security correspondent Jennifer Griffin who conducted her own independent sources including former senior Trump officials to confirm what other news media have claimed. Trump has responded by demanding she be fired. Interestingly, Trump suggested former POTUS Chief of Staff General John Kelly himself could have been an anonymous source quoted in The Atlantic.

Verified that Trump said that anyone who was in the Vietnam War was a "sucker" and that he hated John McCain and that he said he couldn't understand why anyone would fight for their country and asked why they would since there was nothing in it for them personally and also that he didn't want disabled people in the parade or whatever it was because it isn't a good look and "no one wants to see that". They said the part about not going to the cemetery was not true and that he really didn't go due to the weather.
