How's the situation in China? Is it ok to visit China now? I mean about a month's time.

Is China closed to tourist going there? I will be travelling alone.

China specialist please comment.

Some questions as well:  How much do you pay generally for street foods(in US Dollars).?

Can I easily find guesthouse in Canton. Or low budget accommodation.,

China is still closed to tourists.

As far as I am aware it depends which country you are travelling from. You need to obtain COVID-19 negative certificate and spend 14 days in quarantine at the hotel. You will require a Visa to enter and flights are very expensive compared to normal. Food prices are pretty cheap although more then Thailand, very much depends on what you want to eat. Hotels start at about $40

When you say Canton I assume you mean Guangzhou. We went there last year for a couple of weeks, quite a nice city. Easy to get about on the metro, should try and get a card, makes it a lot cheaper. Food is a bit more than Thai and not as good, you need to be careful with the street food as a lot is made from intestines. There are some very reasonable places in the shopping malls, I found an Italian food chain that was excellent, bolognaise about 80 baht or pizza at 120 baht, large beer around 60 baht.

We stayed in an Airbnb right in the centre not far off the Beijing Road, very reasonable and many to choose from.

One of the problems for foreigners is that China is almost a cashless society, virtually everything and everyone is paid for by QR code so some things that are automated, like the bike hire stands become unavailable. You would need a Chinese bank account to join the payment system, we were fortunate my niece was at uni there and she paid for a lot and I just reimbursed her.

Something else you should bear in mind, either buy Yuan before going or change at the airport, I had real problems at the banks and gave up in the end, used my wife's Chinese account to transfer from Thailand and drew out using an ATM.

As said, biggest problem at the moment will be getting into the country, good luck.

Just get cash from ATM no problem and exchange rate is the actual rate not the ripoff rates you will be offered at exchange booth or airport. I had zero issues paying with cash.

The CCP did a great job of controlling the virus within China, It's just disgusting that they delayed/lied to the rest of the world about the virus, tried to cover it up and blame the USA and haven't apologised for their actions. China are virtually back to normal while the rest of the world is still in lockdown and in recession.

Unfortunately it's more than 950,000 deaths (and many many more if we include excess deaths) not to mention the economic hardships that many now face

Atm is ok, although never the actual rate, for someone who may be aware but you are making the assumption that a usable credit card is available. I had just come from the UK and had more cash in my pocket than balance on the card. There were no exchange booths where we were and the banks required information that I did not have available.

I never said I had a problem paying with cash, but it was obviously something they weren't used to and more of a problem for the cashier, particularly with change, sometimes sent to the back of the queue while someone sorted it. We went to a town up in the mountains and had to use a ferry to get across the river to the town centre. Fare was 1 yuan, it was QR code or the right fare, no change given.

I have to assume that you believe warning someone of the potential problems is totally unnecessary.

Thank you everyone for the response to my questions on travel to China.

From the informations I come to the conclusion that it is too much trouble for me to visit China.

I am 70 but I am not on medication, get tired sometimes still can walk if weather is not humid or hot to walk around.

I have cancer of the colon but I refused to get treatment in hospital now just waiting to exit (know what I mean?).

The idea was to do a last trip to China, come back home and get admitted to the hospital. Now I think I wouldn't be able to do that due to many factors. So now I am just waiting at home for the grim reaper to come and say "Hello there".

However I think in the end I still have to get admitted to the hospital because the pain can be excruciating and hospital have strong pain killer compare to what I have that I bought at the pharmacy.

Chinese girls are a nightmare and you don't have to look even close to Brad Pitt, just average but I would not encourage anyone to get involved with Chinese girls unless you are prepared to fully take on the Chinese culture and except that love means nothing in China. pathetic behaviour to suggest going to China for a "free lay". 

China is very low risk for covid but the borders are pretty much closed for tourists. Winter is also coming on and most of the big tourist sites are  in the cold zones. Hotels may be hard to book for laowais.

 

Hong Kong is probably more accessible.
