Channel 7 confirmed that the first batch of 150 Chinese tourists from Guangzhou under the Special Tourist Visa scheme would arrive in Phuket next Thursday, October 8th.

They reported that yesterday officials from the infectious disease department were at Phuket airport preparing testing facilities.

They also said that 9 hotels with 1,200 rooms have been designated for the 14 day quarantine that these tourists and subsequent visitors must undergo.

If after seven more days the tourists are still Covid-19 negative they will be allowed to travel widely in Thailand.

The tourists from Guangzhou - where there are currently no infections - will need to have certificates that they have been negative for 72 hours before travel to Thailand.

They will then undergo further checks at Phuket airport on arrival before being taken to state quarantine.

What happened to the full 15 days?

If negative, reduced to 7 days.

Again, We have to take care of the Chinese.

As far as I have heard from my Chinese neighbor there are "exceptions" for some groups and this one have got 7 days in quarantine unless they test positive at arrival so they can be ready to celebrate the vegetarian festival starting 15/10 ????

I do wonder what sort of motivation and or agenda "tourists" would have that would lead them to find all this time and hassle acceptable.

Temples? Beaches? Women of the night?

Maybe here on shopping trip? Buy up failing Thai businesses for a song, no chorus?

Anyone else wonder about "the why" of making trip to Thailand?

Best of luck to them, I canceled my booking for 10 days at the end of October/Nov to be down there during Loy Krathong.

Somewhere else is getting my money now.

It is all pre fixed scam.

Why not publish their names, jobs, etc.. how many weeks (days) HOLIDAY do Chinese get annually???

I wonder if their trip expenses are paid by the Chinese Gov  in a pre arranged joint PR stunt with the Thais?

Its nothing else than a set up to convince the down to earth local Thais and laborers that its now safe to let in tourists.

they possibly arrange for a PR super- stunt with no Chinese at all coming into the country but a pack of Bangkokian theatre and art students will be impersonating these "travellers": This way you make sure the "arrivals" are free of the China Virus

above, @Steven100 asked "Now what about that jet with those chinese millionaires on board...."

maybe they came in via special stealth airplane, spent a few lavish days and nights, returned already for China ... who knows ...

Tested before departure, tested on arrival and twice later on before being released....so where is this "wave" going to come from?! The first "wave" was just a ripple and anyway you can hide but you can't escape this virus, eveybody will be exposed sooner or later.

It's seven MORE days, AFTER the 14 day quarantine. The additional seven day period makes no medical sense (they're safe enough to travel around Phuket, but not safe enough for other provinces?), but in a manner that's the opposite of what you're suggesting.

As always happens in these situations, they'll watch the first few batches like hawks and all will be OK. Then, under huge pressure from the tourism industry, they'll relax restrictions and let their guard down and by Christmas we'll be looking like Spain, but without the first-world medical system. Idiots inviting disaster.

@Guderian are you thai? i doubt it, yet another falang thinking its their country. with the 'we'll be'

Oh, they have "certificates" !!!   Well good to know because those could never be faked and purchased.........particularly from such a reliable country like China.
