Plenty of answers in previous posts, I.e. by Heybruce. The problem is that he did nothing in anticipation, unlike SK or Germany, just to name a few examples.

Apparently, you seem to think that Trumps response has been adequate. So what did he do that has been an efficient and timely response?

You want to know how many lives would have been saved.   Well, a lot.   First of all, when the ban on flights from China -- which isn't even close to what in fact it was, and the flights from Asia was re-routed to specific airports so that people could be screened, thousands could have been saved if they actually did screening.  They didn't.  There was not even a remedial health check, nothing.   I was on one flight that was re-routed.   Several days later a friend returning from Asia was on another, still no screening.   

Flights returning from Europe were also not screened.   People returning from Italy were at extreme risk for having been exposed.  There was again no screening.  Oh and no contact tracing.  Just get off the plane and proceed throughout the country.  This no doubt helped to seed the virus in many previously uninfected communities.   

It is well documented that at least 36,000 lives could have been saved had he imposed the lockdown one week earlier.   No doubt many thousands of lives could have been saved had he supported and encouraged the mandating of masks and social distancing.  He didn't and the US has the highest numbers and isn't improving much.   

The White House alone has more infected people that some countries.   So, yes, he is responsible for the deaths of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands.
