BANGKOK, Oct 7 (TNA) – The resort island of Phuket has postponed reopening to foreign tourists until the end of the Vegetarian Festival to create confidence among local tourists.

Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disease Control Dr. Kajornsak Kaewcharat said the first group of 150 Chinese tourists, earlier scheduled to arrive in Phuket on Oct8 will come after Oct 25.

The postponement came after the meeting of provincial officials and tourism operators to create confidence among Thai tourists, who plan to travel to Phuket for the Vegetarian Festival from Oct 17-25.

I'm quite happy to have another month of being able to pay the electric bill in 7/11 without getting swamped by bus loads of loud and ignorant Chinese tourists.

Would those be the same Chinese tourists that will be paying the Phuket vendors next month? Plenty of the vendors will be <deleted> that the first batch was kept out.

Only one plain load at a time.

Have you looked at the numbers involved? And these arent going to be the typical bus tours.

Need to find another 149 to fill the 150 quota...?

The "first group" presumably now being a different group or all those hoops will need to be re-visited !

So let me get this right.  Chinese tourists from Guangzhou were supposed to arrive tommorow the 8th, and enjoy Phuket.  Yesterday the Government said they were not coming and have a meeting scheduled for friday to work out the kinks in the plan.  Then this morning a Government spokesman says that the Chinese are coming.  By Noon today I was so confused, but now the real story is out.  The real reason the Chinese are not coming is because of the Vegetarian festival.  Now it all makes sense.

So Who are these Chinese "tourists" waiting to rush into Phuket and delayed again I mean, this must be a joke but they actually think people believe it.

So these famous Chinese tourists can have a holiday whenever they want. They are just waiting the green flag from Thailand to rush on a plane (bookings anyone?) and spend a beautiful time in quarantine?

If there really are tourists waiting to come from china they will have had to book time off work. It’s unlikely they can just suddenly change their leave plans with 24 hours notice and then suddenly come after oct 25. This all just sounds like nonsense.

Here's a good documentary from DW about tourism ( or lact thereof) in Sayaulita Mexico right now covering both the side of the locals trying to earn a living, and the fear of MX doctors about the coronavirus.  Note that Mexico is open, but yet few tourists are coming.

Imagine Mexico required a two week expensive quarantine at the visitors expense, they would have basically no tourism..................  Just like Thailand.

More BS and there was me thinking there were 150 Chines tourists in mid air did the flight get turned back or are they sitting on some white cloud waiting to be given the final instructions to land ,the one good thing about all these announcements is that it stops me being miserable I laugh so much my sides constantly hurt ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

If the tourists were arriving on the 8th then would they not be confined to quarantine from the 8th to 21st

then proven Covid clear before being allowed out... the Veg fest ends on 25th so should not pose a risk?

Or are they getting cold feet?

If there is 150 Chinese tourists who booked time off from their work and now the trip

is cancelled, there will be 150 unhappy people in that crowd.  I will wait until

things are more back to normal before trying to get to Thailand or anywhere.

Would any of you want this to happen to your holiday plans.

Get your act together Thailand.

Geezer

Clear as mud in reality, and why would only 150 Chinese concern Phukets Vegetarian festival promoters, if they had already cleared quarantine?  I think people are extremely afraid in this country.

Thailand should do a TV show...."Extreme Face-Saving".....the plane was empty.

Yes this is  the new 14 day quarantine measure

So once they arrived they are straight out on the town spending their cash

I really mis that ????-wow emoji in the Like-bar....:whistling:

Considering the amount of hoops these supposed eager tourists are having to jump through must be like a real life game of 'Snakes & Ladders'

Quintessential dog and pony show.

But - wait wait wait!!!  Then we have Loi Kraton and Yee Ping.  How can Thai tourists come to Phuket if those dirty foreigners are in quarantine during Loi Kraton and Yee Ping???  Omg!

Given the number of Thai holidays, tourism should be back on track about.........never.  ????

But in the meanwhile......   I know!  Let's drop the quarantine period to 7 days!!! That will get the tourist back for sure.

???? "But, no tourists have even landed yet let along spend time in quarantine hotels."

Never mind the details.  7 day quarantine!!!  That will save the day!

I don`t think there are any tourists waiting.  Dream on....

So they basically told those Chinese "tourists" on short notice that they will have to delay their trip by two weeks in order not to scare domestic tourists who are in Phuket for the Vegetarian Festival? And the Chinese accepted that? Just like that? Boggles the mind.
