  • They must be the kind of tourists with nothing better to do than to be locked up for 14 days or just so desperate to be in Thailand, either way, very bizarre...

You know who is bringing in the faceless minions to assist with future planning to deal with protesters?  Would be interesting to sea how many have Hong Kong stamps in their passport about the time of the crackdown...but then...they may not have stamps.....

You don't get stamps in HK. Done away with years ago. Just a tiny slip of paper

why wasn't the PM (general) there to whey and kiss their toes? or was he getting a banquet ready for them at government house/

So, 11 persons then were actual STV tourists, correct? Wow, folks! MORE TOURISTS!!!! >>>>Eleven<<<< tourists, WOW!!!!!! Blymeee... There were days where close to a million of tourists arrived per week during high season... and now these 11 tourists are celebrated by the media like Thailand has invented a space shuttle that flies to Mars and back in less than a day on distilled water alone. What a (deleted) world we live in. It sucks, especially if your business was (emphasis on WAS) tourism. F that!!!! ☹️

It's an incredible event.

The demand to come to Thailand is through the roof!  11 tourists!

The tears of joy are streaming down my face right now.  Thailand won against COVID.

There were 145 tourists aboard China Southern Airlines CZ 3081 from Guangzhou that touched down at 2.30 pm yesterday.

Come on let's call it what it really is. A Mcdonalds worth of Chinese.

To be honest, I'd rather be in China at the moment. Although it depends on which part of the country you're in, as some parts are still strict with face masks and such (Beijing being one); others no longer require them to walk down the street or enter most stores (although they probably are still required to enter malls and public transport)...

this applies to many parts of the country from Yunnan to Guangxi etc. according to recent footage I've seen out of the country. Out on the streets...virtually no one is wearing face masks, whereas in Thailand, a good 50% of the population still is. Can't really understand these Chinese "tourists" unless they're all business people.

i'm in hainan now.  the virus for us has been a great big nothingburger.  less than 200 cases on the island (pop. around 10M) since the beginning.  there was a mild lockdown here in january during and just after spring festival.  schools reopened late in the spring, since then all is normal.  all businesses and tourist sites are open, hotels are full, even movie theaters are operating.  masks were required for malls and government buildings for a while, but that's mostly gone away.  at present probably fewer than 10% consistently wearing masks.

i'd guess a lot of these tourists are retired condo buyers.  compare property prices per square meter and thailand is a bargain, well worth a couple weeks of quarantine to save thousand$!

(beijing inner city US$15K/square meter)

I think they prefer to visit and sponsor Chinese establishments!

According to reports yesterday ALL  "tourists " IN or OUT of China are banned, so they're not tourists but illegal immigrants.

group tours out, and all inbound tourism is banned.

individuals, like on the STV, are a go.

Well it’s fair to conclude these fine young communists have particularly high “ Social Credit Scores “.  Since we all have a little extra time on our hands, a good read is “The gulag Archipelago “. A little ditty Alexander Solzhenitsyn scribbled down.

Just Sayin.........

My Chinese friend was one of those "tourists" on the Monday flight from Shanghai.  She is there to buy property in Thailand.  She is definitely all business.

Probably like a lot you see recently in the news that are renting a 3/4 bed place for 30 people and the amount of phones and laptops in the place make it look like a power buy store ! Tourists ????

So according to this report 145 of them are not on an STV, so they must be on WPs or some other type of visa, the business men that is. As usual with these reports they lack clarity. I suppose its the price you pay for being just translators rather than news reporters.

I think you may have just elevated Thai news reporters to a position far higher than they deserve!

Whether they are tourists or not is irrelevant they are guinea pigs let's hope none of them develope or catch Covid whilst in Thailand. So far as when actual tourism occurs surely this will not be possible until at least 2012

I don't know what your smoking but it's damm good weed!

You may call me cynical but somehow I believe that NONE of these Chinese arrivals are actual tourists. They ALL are coming for some sort of business. Only that would explain why they would willingly put up with 14 days quarantine.

The prospect of being able to afterwards spend up to 6 months in Thailand is NOT something that would attract a bona fide tourist. Chinese tour groups in the past typically only spent between 6 and 10 days in the country, simply because employees just don't get that much paid leave from their companies.

I don't think they're all quarantining.  Two days after the first such announcment a while back, I saw Chinese tourists in CM after having not seen them for months.  My guess is brownn envelopes.

Now ...

I just texted her to ask her.  My Chinese friend who arrived via the Shanghai flight is still in quarantine.  She even sent me pics of her room and a few days ago let me know which hotel she is in.  Thus, the Chinese are actually quarantining.

Or maybe they have winter condos like other foreigners. Chinese are not that different from anyone else.

These are people with business in Thailand. I know no one who would go sit in quarantine in Thailand. Crazy

Do you know any of the Chinese?

Just out of curiosity. does she came with suitcases full of cash?

If they are 118 businessmen why does the headline call them tourists?  And, yes, of course they are businessmen.  And, businessmen with very compelling reasons that they have to be in Thailand.  No actual tourist would go thru the STV process.
