Thai police officers say they’ve been cheated out of COVID-19 payments

Thai police throughout the country claim that they have been cheated out of payments for extra work carried out during the pandemic.

Now an official investigation is underway with the RTP's own Bursar Office under scrutiny.

Some low ranking officers have been complaining on Facebook that they have not been properly paid for overtime at special checkpoints and extra hours worked because of the pandemic.

Some did not receive what was rightfully theirs and others are believed to have been forced to hand back money.

They were meant to be able to earn an extra 60 baht/hour up to 420 baht/day.

Pol Gen Wissanu Prasatthong-Osoth, an inspector general, said that a 60 day inquiry was underway.

Whether it was cheating cops or just a mistake in the Bursar's Office will be determined.

But he promised severe repercussions if it was cheating.

He has already accepted that there were "irregularities".

The case related to payments to police in the North, North East, Central region and South, reported Channel 7.

Don't they have to pay for their own bullets and office supplies as well? Out of whatever meagre "official" pittance they do get. Might explain why they're often reluctant to shoot or give out receipts.

Normal salary is 9000 about.. Have to pay their uniform, equipment.. , Vests.. Clothes, pepper spray whatever.. and finally their gun.. Remember a new gun is around 60 000.. I understand completly they have to take bribes..I dont want to even guess what a bulletproof vest costs.

It has been said a million years already gov. should start by raising the salary around three times.. Only then will the bribery maybe go down...As it is now its impossible to survive on this base salary... Reason for it I guess is that everything under 10 000 is non taxable...

There will be someone sitting behind a big desk doing okay out of this issue.

I feel so sad for these poor men...
Let's open up a PayPal account like in Soi half-a-dozen!

If true, this latest revelation is yet another example of the dysfunctional and systemic "illness" that plagues the system

The much promised reform of the RTP by "You know who", reflects the sad state of affairs overall. This not only affects non-Thais, but primarily the Thais; who representing the majority, are the main targets for abuse by those entrusted to "Serve and Protect".

"Cheating cops cheat cheating cops" a more accurate headline
