and they let him on a firing range ?

...but how are they to know what his history is. To them he was probably just like any other guy that shows up on any given day.

My wife and I used that range a couple of times a month when living in Pattaya.  Always felt safe as we do anywhere we go in LOS.

Nice of you to give your son an AK47 "The preferred weapon of our enemy"!   ....

Well, he learned on one as our first center-fire rifle at about age 12, back when ammo was cheap, like <10 cents per round.  That kid could hip shoot.  In Marine training, he put a dummy 40mm grenade down into a tank hull turret from quite a distance on a free shot.  Eyeballed it.

In deployment training, he had a class in small weapons.  Mixed class, not just newbies.  The Captain teaching was going on about AKs and said the example was such-and-such origin.  My kid begged to differ and the room got silent.  The kid proceeded to tell them about that particular weapon (He had learned some Cyrillic script to identify them) and conducted the rest of the class with an immediate clearance drill or whatnot.  A Lance Corporal doesn't contradict a Captain, but my kid got away with it.    He then went on to talk about rocket propelled grenade launchers.  Which is what killed him and three others.  SIGH.

It bought a tear to my eye when I read that.  Another upstanding lad gone.  I am sorry for your loss. ????

Is he the same American who was previously arrested in Pattaya for public disturbances and arrested in Bangkok after leaving a “suspicious package” at US Embassy?

As an American I must say this gave me quite the chuckle. As a 29 year old guy who's done a 6 month bender in Pattaya, I can say with confidence, the lower age limit should be 30. This kid was probably drowning in alcohol everyday, smoking meth with soi 6/1 ladyboys, and fell in love with a bargirl (who fleeced him/ghosted him) and lost his sauce. He should've browsed Thai visa before he visited.

I'm not sure browsing Thai Visa would be beneficial to his mental state!

Rob,

are you now distinguishing between the US and thailand?

it is pure conjecture to relate a mentally ill individual to his country b/c of the presence of guns there...

can you show evidence that the gun culture there directly or indirectly influenced his behavior here?

Probably spot on with that comment.

This is a major issue for Ranges that are open to anybody that want to shoot a Gun for a few Hundred baht.

I used one of these places Years ago, and was appalled by the total disregard for any kind of vetting or safety.

I just walked in off the street, paid the guy some money, and he then asked which gun I would like to fire.

Showed me to the " Range " and just let me get on with it.

It really was that simple to get my hands on a Gun and Ammunition.

Many moons ago, I used to shoot competitive prone Rifle Target in the UK, to a level of County Team.

I was also a Registered NSRA Club Instructor, for many Years.

Nobody, and I mean Nobody, could walk in off the Street in the UK and even pick up a weapon, never mind have the access to ammunition and actually shoot the thing, until they have sat several informal classroom sessions on safety and weapons use Etc.

And this was pre UK weapons ban

Didn't this year in Pattaya we have another almost young American guy break out of jail with his Thai wife and another Thai guy, go on the run, ended up with a gun and shot himself dead in front of his gal?

Perhaps you should learn more about Americans...before spouting off BS

Perhaps they (Americans) could learn more about the rest of the world as well?

I'm not surprised as well that he is from the US. And before you start I'm not against weapons nor Americans.

Why am i not surprised that this gun crime was committed by an American. Anyway must be a mental case combined with brought up in a  culture that adores guns. Not sure what he thought he could do with 8 bullets.

Perhaps you should learn more about Americans...before spouting off BS

You mean if he learn more about Americans he'll know what they can do with 8 bullets?

Yep, mental.

I remember similar incidents happening at least 5-6 times in Pattaya and Phuket.  So why doesn't Thailand require armed security guards at places where guns can be rented?

That’s what happens when your bar girl leaves you & you have run out of cash & you have over stayed your visa. Gotta let loose, although it’s usually over a couple of beers ????

I know it's wrong but I must admit I wanted to see where he was from and American had already been my guess

Bit like a Barcelona game if its 5-0 you instantly think Messi scored.

How is it B.S. when the US is the country with the a huge gun problem. Also on this board you will always have Americans moan on how to get guns. So yea I think my assessment was pretty accurate. Yes of course there are also anti gun Americans.  However you can't deny the gun culture in the US and the different mentality from the rest of the civilized on guns.

americans don't need 'pornhub' if they have a gun handy.
