Four charges would be slapped on Ratchaburi member of Parliament Pareena Kraikup of the Palang Pracharath Party for allegedly encroaching on the national reserve forest in Ratchaburi province, the chief of police of the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRECD) said on Monday.

The land encroachment allegation against Pareena made national headlines in February when the Royal Forest Department (RFD) filed charges against her after months of investigation revealed that her Khao Son 2 chicken farm in Rangbua subdistrict of Jombeung district allegedly encroached on 711 rai, 2 ngarn and 93 square wah (approximately 115 hectares) of protected forestland.

The four charges to be filed are: trespassing on national reserved forestland; residing, constructing or making profit off national reserved forestland; defacing or destroying state-owned lands without permission from officials; extracting underground water without permission from officials, Pol Maj-General Phithak Uthaitham, the NRECD chief, said on Monday.

The maximum punishment for these charges is 4-20 years imprisonment and Bt200,000 to Bt2 million fine.

“On November 23, the NRECD would also summon Pareena’s father, Thawee, to acknowledge complaints filed against him of allegedly encroaching on more than 1,000 rai of national forestland in Ratchaburi’s Suan Pheung district,” added Phitak.

Thawee Kraikup was a seven-time Ratchaburi MP, and the deputy transport minister in the Chuan Leekpai government in 1992.

And, hopefully, banned from politics for life.

When is the last time we have seen a high ranking member of the army brass, or the current administration charged, arrested, and jailed? How about never?

Yea, you'll have to excuse me for not getting too excited about this. After all, she's one of the "good people', right?

Now guess what she will likely get... jail or a petty cash fine?

If there's any punishment at all. You know... "lack of evidence", "conflicting witness statements" and other most welcome conveniences.

Or it will draw on for years, see I.e. Suthep's cases.

Love the woman's smile. Could you imagine being her husband, having oopy oop and when finished seeing that scowl!

It would be nice if this would go anywhere without being dragged out or a suspended sentence and a slap on the wrist. She is not a nice woman.

My goodness! I wonder where this will lead.

My knowledge of Thai justice leads me to think>>>>>nowhere.

Who would like to bet about this?

She is a yellow and one of Pinocchio's favoured 'good people' really doesn't matter what she and others on the junta's side do there will just be a few meaningless threats then it will be quietly forgotten

Without  a complete revolution in the Thai judiciary she and the other's like her will never see any form of justice, we all know this...

She will fight the charges, drag it out for ever and then get forgotten.

She will die of old age before she goes to prison

Of course, it's not as important as picking a few mushrooms in a national park......

Waste of time and resources. As if a ruling Govt. MP would be found guilty of anything. Even on the off chance she is found guilty, it would be appealed and the case would be in abeyance for at least 25 years. Pareena is as pure as the driven snow... ???? Next...

Lots of <deleted> off looking ladies recently. Saw one in a CNN interview, too.

Couldn't happen to a nicer person now could it.  Perfect for her status.  Where else can you stay in a government position if convicted, well yes there is the US.

10,000v  20,000v 250,000v and 500,000v charges  should do it

Time taken to go to court and reach a verdict X years; time taken to go to Appeals Court X + Several Years; time taken to go to Supreme Court X + several years + several more years. If guilty, as a first offender from a very influential regional political family, any prison sentence likely suspended. And a fine that is pocket money to them.

Meanwhile, what has happened to the land in question? Has it been taken back? All their constructions removed, the land being returned to how it was at their expense? Or are they still using it to generate more income?

These things never seem to be concluded.

Don’t think we’ll be seeing that now pornhub has been blocked.

Someone higher up (one of her father's old enemies? - feuds never ends here) wants her land, or her gone.

It's never really complicated here. Family, money, power, the real 'trinity' in Thailand.

Over 700 rai just for a chicken farm? Must be a LOT of chickens. Blatant corruption.

Chicks for sale free range encroachers ????
