There are actually quite large amounts of Steel in Aircraft.

Not the Steel you would make a Tractor out of, but specialist Steels such as Inconel, Titanium, Waspalloy and Super Nimonics.

Just Saying

Inconel is an alloy of nickel and chromium, titanium is an element. Waspalloy is 2% iron. I'll have to tell my metallurgist friends you think they are steels.

Why don't you research what you are posting first?

not sure that I would want to try to fly a steel aircraft.  Not that it would get off the ground of course, but still....

The distrust being shown to China simply by them making their own cars is very strange.

The US (in the middle of an identity crisis),, don't start me,, moved out & is no longer able to produce vehicles at a cost that the 3rd world can afford.

Many years ago I bought a new Datsun 12 Y to which all my friends laughed at.

Then Dad bought a little Honda Civic to which all his Holden, Rover,  Chevie " or Ford driving mates laughed.

Both cars outlasted them.

Now I am driving ,,,you guessed a Honda Civic with 190,000 clicks on it & never missed a beat

One day you might be happy to drive a Chinese made vehicle.

Times change

Auto manufacturers in the USA stuck with large gas-guzzlers when consumer tastes had changed. The few smaller cars they produced were streets behind the Japanese in terms of quality. It is somewhat ironic it was an American, W. Edwards Deming, who guided the Japanese into manufacturing good quality, low cost vehicles.

You may be right, the Chinese are next. Certainly, they now lead the world in steelmaking. Permit me to doubt they are up to japanese and Korean quality standards in vehicle manufacture just yet.

No doubt you can provide a link which gives the percentage of steel in a fighter aircraft.

Perhaps you have a problem with admitting your OP was erroneous, misleading, etc. Methinks you are trying too hard.

I understood Patongo's entertaining post to hint at Chinese double standards or thereabouts, I don't think anyone really took the quote at face value

how 'bout we just agree the 500-lb bomb casings are made of steel, and the lead in the bullets makes up for the lighter weight allows in the frames.

anyhoo, it's not just cars and trucks.  they're also building high-speed conventional railways (400 kmh) and newfangled maglev systems (up to 600 kmh).

......and you just might be flying on chinese made passenger aircraft within a decade or so.

That'll be the day, have you checked out the safety records of Chinese airlines? Although Boeing did shoot itself in the foot with the 737 MAX.

My Bad

I had a look at some of their SUV's, some of them are not looking too shabby.

There are quite a lot of models to choose from, at a quick glance, I like the cool looking Haval F7x, top model have 165KW or about 220hp. I don't have a clue if they are any good or not.

Trumpchi GS8

Never understood why they called it this in English. In Chinese it's 传祺, chuanqi, something like 'lucky banner'. The common meaning for 'chi' in Mandarin are 'pool', 'shame' and 'late'. I guess it's not intended to be translated back, but whenever I saw it, it made me think of 'Trump-pool' (swamp!), Trump-shame (none!) and now Trump-late (...counted ballots).

Looks like you know absolutly NOTHING about the chinese car builders. Better you do a research before you post nonsense like this. It's time to learn something new!!!

I'm not surprised if they are the market leaders in 5 years. ????

And you know what exactly? I aint owned one of these but a neighbor in my home country bought one as a farm vehicle. Was rubbish he got a deal on a new one and also just rubbish.

I know chinese quality as i ran a manufacturer biz of racing motorcycle parts worldwide. Im a qualified mech and machinist as were my employees and branches around the world. I was importing container loads of chinese components for years until my retirement just last year. Lets just say the only dramas we ever faced as a biz was chinese components. Never what they were to be like causing continuous failures and along with this selling my designed stuff behind my back to competitors. Sure, i dont know everything there is about great wall but from my experience i will never buy a chinese vehicle cuz i value my families safety. China dont!

Please come out of your cave or from under your rock. Chinese cars / manufacturers are on par with western standards now. I have insights in this business and a lot of parts and components, if not whole cars, are now being produced in China by Chinese companies.

Like it or not, China is automobile market number 1. India will be next.

I know first hand about chinese quality. You dont need to make an assumption. I ran a biz with branches around the world for the last 20yrs making specialised racing parts for motorcyles. All problems we faced always came from chinese rubbish. Bad graded steels or not properly harderned steels, bad alluminium castings, etc. Thankfully im happy and retired. I wont ever own a chinese vehicle again and yes i have owned many and even been given free motorcyles. No, i dont have first hand knowledge of great walls quality but know people owning them and there stories.

You buy one and tell me how it is in 6months????

A bit off topic. I tried buying a couple of chainsaws made in China for my son, who cuts his own firewood on his property, about 100 tonnes/year. Considerably cheaper than a Stihl, which is the premium chainsaw brand.

Both failed within one or two months, getting them serviced was impossible, no-one home when I tried to make a warranty claim ( 1 year warranty ). I gave up and bought him a Stihl, been going strong ever since.

Maybe these Chinese vehicles are keenly priced and have impressive engineering. However, after-sales service and honoring warranties could be a different kettle of fish.

I found out it depends all on a good and reliable supplier.
