Thailand's immigration chief Sompong Chingduang presented news of the arrest of two Cameroon nationals at IB HQ in Bangkok yesterday.

The chief in a mask was flanked by heavily armed commandos and men in hazmat suits in front of a large vinyl board image of himself and new RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk.

Sompong said that Region 5 officers in Chiang Mai arrested Ferbi or Noar or Nua who was wanted on a warrant issued in September for fraud utilizing IT in connection with a Bitcoin and Forex market scam.

In addition the suspect was prosecuted for being on overstay of 1,583 days.

This arrest was expanded and led immigration police to Nakhon Sawan where they found 26 year old Evan, also from Cameroon staying in a flat.

He, too, was on overstay - 1,602 days. He is now in the hands of the Nakhon Sawan police.

Naew Na reported this story referring to the police operation against "black skinned" individuals.

They referred to the country of origin of the suspects in their headline as "muang mor phee"  "the land of witchdoctors" or "shamans".

Naew Na repeated their standard line that the arrests followed the policies of PM Prayut and DPM Prawit via the top echelons of the Royal Thai Police.

Why ?

A bit over the top, or just your 15 minutes of fame ?

They should put the photos of longtime overstayers on the internet if they are not able to find them themselves.  They can give a reward for informations. As seen here such people might have a reason for hiding. And such criminals need to be stopped.

I wonder if any of these guys actually have computer skills. It seems like the developed nations are souring the world for people who have specific computer skills. You'd think these people might find a legit opportunity to work abroad in relation to Tech if they had any skills. I do remember lots of Nigerians coming to the US do work in accounting in the past. Some of them were corrupt and exploited their companies but still they were able to get into the US with their degrees to do it.

Was he scared the Cameroonian Bruce Willis was going to suddenly drop from the ceiling in a daring raid to free his overstaying comrades?

The Presenter is simply very insecure – so needs to have 9 others around him

How racist is that!  Disgraceful stereotyping and racial profiling.  This is the 21st century for goodness sake and there is no place for racism of any type.

I wonder if could the PM could use this expression in his next address to the UN when talking about Africa.

You want to support such people? Each day longer here gives them the chance to commit their crimes longer. He was on 1583 days overstay. Too bad for his victims that it took so long for the immigration to discover him.

When you're going after someone from the land of witchdoctors, you can't be too careful

The car doesn’t want to be seen as racist so is set to white and Asian mode .

Must have been a lucrative scam if they couldn't even afford a visa. Just saying.
