To answer the question directly, no, I don't.  We all have to die and the dead don't know that they are dead, so all fine to me.  I would rather avoid too much pain, which is another question, so I would like the choice when I go and how, hence my stash of 100 Tramadol pills and a bottle of the finest Scottish single malt.

My sentiment exactly. I have some good meds stashed away and very rare bottle of 20 year old Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon. Which ironically I am dying to open...????

Death is no problem, we will all die.

I hope I die peacefully in my sleep or maybe in a high-speed crash were it doesn't hurt too much for too long.

Until then: Carpe diem

In the west, on the other hand, the opposite seems to be true.

Most people I know from the western world are terrified at the thought of dying and even the topic of discussing it is met with anger and indifference.

Not my experience of people in the west or anywhere else.

Why anyone would fear the inevitable is beyond me.

Fear poverty, fear pain, fear homelessness, fear environmental destruction ... but death? No

Nope....???? Thanks for asking. Great health currently. I did tell my wife that if I should croak suddenly that they use the bottle as an accelerant in the burn chamber. One way or another I am going to enjoy it.

Have you ever studied the Bible and, in particular, the Catholic faith?

Catholics are bricking it.

It's not fearing the inevitable, it's fear of the unknown and loss of "self".

it occurred to me that most Thai people I know and have spoken to about this in the past seem not to have any fear of death.

Why would they when they know they will be reborn?

Those that truly believe in God have no fear of death because a better life awaits on the other side.

They're in for one hell of shock then.

Perhaps you might think differently if you had just been told you have 3 months to live.

And remember, its the people that you leave behind who really suffer.

Not if you tell them your PIN !    LOL

I havnt waded through the previous 3 pages (yet).

No I dont fear it, f you think about it we all die each night, its just a matter of whether or not you wake up in tne morning or have taken the big sleep.

Another school of thought, which I like, is we dont die, energy just transforms, the shell we occupied is dead nothing more, we, our energy transforms to move to something else ????

Its HOW we die that bothers me, as long as it dont hurt or suffering, no problem here.

We are just electro-chemical entities capable of perceiving the world around us (not quite true, the brain conjures up the image of a world around us).....when the chemistry stops we stop..... we are no more.....sad, but true IMO:

Raised in an observant, church going Catholic family. Fear of death was never an issue.

It’s inevitable and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s are worthy of fear.

But death, no not at all.

Nope...my atheism doesn’t go down well at family events.

Agree 100%

Both my parents lived long lives though my father's was cut short at 80 due to exposure to asbestos in his 30's. My mother, while she lived till 95, her last 3 years were just not worth living. 3 years of dementia in a care home in Scotland at £3000 per month until her money from the sale of her retirement apartment ran out. 3 years of not knowing where you are or who anyone is, having to be fed and cleaned every day,  I would not wish on anyone.

Quick and painless would be my preference. Just don't wake up one day - perfect.

On another note I am attempting to make life after me as easy as possible for my wife, sorting out wills and beneficiaries etc. At 65 am hoping for at least another 20, I really don't want to leave the party that is living in Thailand.

This would seem on the surface to be untrue.

My uncle was a devout protestant but was also terrified of death

He was also not a very nice man and a complete hypocrite, he may have been using his religion to hide from reality and cover his hypocrisies by professing to be a good hearted, law abiding church goer when in reality he was anything but.

The more devote they are the less christian they become.....weird.

One can be a devout follower of religion, but not a true believer. I doubt any member of the inquisition actually believed in heaven or hell, as they were certainly headed for the latter.

Theres a great line used in some movies.

"Tell me how he died ? NO I'll tell you how he lived"

Thats a great line and says it all. ????
