Thai Rath reported that Laem Mae Phim, a normally busy beach in the Klaeng area of Rayong, was deserted on Sunday.

Posting a video of the desolation they said the area was a "graveyard".

The beaches were all but empty, jet-skis were unused, deckchairs and rubber rings were friendless.

The weather was lovely but there was virtually no domestic tourists there to enjoy it.

The media reported that the Covid-19 outbreak in Thailand and specifically in Rayong had caused 80% cancellations of hotel and resort bookings at New Year.

Rinradee who runs a tour company taking people out on pleasure trips to see the corals said that she was booked up 100%.

Almost everyone has now cancelled well into January.

She has been forced to put 100 staff on half month contracts each just to give them some money.

Sothorn, involved in local fisheries and resorts, said everything had been obliterated.

Seafood vendors could barely give away their products - no customers were interested in seafood.

The outbreak that centered on the Central Shrimp Market in Samut Sakhon has seen to that even though operators in Rayong have no connection to it.

Everyone interviewed in Rayong spoke with one voice, said Thai Rat - it's a New Year graveyard.

It's about covid cluster in Rayong cassino, where some 100 are positive. It's not about seafood - it's local one, not from Samut Sakhon.

Bangkokians, instead of going to Rayong, went to Pattaya, Koh Larn or further and for longer holidays to islands in Trat. Koh Chang has large hotel infrastructure.

But the same story of holiday cancellations is everywhere. If the government or local authorities force shudowns, close airports, it might be difficult to come back home and do home quarantine for 2 weeks.

Panic reaction and I somehow feel pity for the businesses there.

On the other hand the central government should use more control over the governors and their quarantine rules.

Somehow I find it disturbing if you are on a weekend trip in said area and when you come back you'll have to quarantine for 14 days just because some local governor making himself important...

This is not news, there have been few tourists in 5 years at Rayong beaches Mae Rampung etc.

Maybe the Rayong governor and chief of police should start doing their collective jobs and start closing down illegal dens of any kind and start helping the people they are paid to serve.
