The page of the Ao Mano - Khao Tanyong National Park in the far south of Thailand has banned swimming at the beach after someone took a picture of a saltwater crocodile just offshore.

All tourists have been told to stay out of the water at all costs as of 3 pm yesterday.

The park - whose status is under review - lies on 58.58 square kilometers of land in Narathiwat province.

There is a sandy beach and a 293 meter peak in the area.

Waiting for what? Until when? This thing will swim in the coastal seas and wander around on land, and they can live for more than 100 years. How can the local authorities be sure it has gone? And even if it pops over the Malaysian border, it could come back at any time. It's not subject to visas and quarantine.

Highly unlikely to attack a human, but they have to survive somehow.

"The park - whose status is under review - lies on 58.58 square meters of land in Narathiwat province."

Misprint? Does this park measure less than 6 X 10 meters? With beachfront? ????

I have corrected the mistake in translation... it should read square kilometres (or kilometers).

Anybody know why it's under review. Presumably an ongoing process before the croc was spotted?

Perhaps a re-read of the OP - 58.58 square kilometers of land

My girl told me about it this morning. As we live in Narathiwat, not far from the beach, it is interesting news for sure.
