SURVEY: Are you comfortable taking the Sinovac vaccine?

Thailand has announced various deals for the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine.   The vaccine is somewhere between 50% and 60% effective.  Which of the following best represents your thoughts on taking the vaccine.

The first and third questions is the same?

 

I have absoluetely no issue taking Astra, Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson etc.

 

I won't touch the sinovac one with ten foot pole - that is as certain as death and taxes.

Oke this is just hypothetical, but what if my Thai wife gets the call to go for the SinoVac injection.

 

Can she refuse? And if so, what will be the consequences?

 

We don't want that SinoVac vaccine, and we are getting another Vaccine (when it's available) in a Private Hospital where we will pay for it ourselves.

That is pretty much my plan!  I would love to see puppet Chan and all the government people take it first plus personally I don't think they are buying it from China at this point China is trying to clean up their image they are pretty much giving it away of course consistent with this government corruption and lies the leader most likely will say it is being purchased and pocket the money like they always do using their own people as test cases.

The Brazilian data came back as 50.3% effective.

50 being the cut point to even consider permitting at all.

Knowing Chinese companies common practice of bribery, and the miserable result, I have zero trust in this. 

I will pass on it, even for free. 

There are better alternatives.

Id take it if it was required to stay in Thailand (I have a kid here) or if a future employer requires it for some wild reason. 

 

Otherwise I wouldnt take it even if it were free. 

 

Its literally the worst one on the market and its hilarious that the Thai gov is going out of their way to secure it.

It won't really matter in the end. Further mutations are going to require adjustments to the vaccines. The current crop may work for a couple of years, but then more will be required. 

I'd wait for more final phase tests and 'real time' results from Indonesia. 

You employer may will consider teachers 'essential workers' and teachers will need to get vaccinated to be able to work with children. But the only vaccine at that time may be the Chinese one - say take the Chinese vaccine or ...?

Which, as I understand it, is the advantage of the mRNA vaccines. They can easily be adjusted to fit mutations in a short time, unlike traditional vaccines.

I'm forced to  buy enough Chinese junk her as it is. I'll never take either chinese vaccine and my Thai lady has already announced that she won't. Fortunately Thailand only ordered 2m doses. My lady says everybody she knows will refuse it as well. 

 

I'll pay for both doses of another if necessary, and we are prepared to wait for that opportunity.

Somehow, paying the same people who unleashed this pandemic on the world for a vaccine which performs poorly and has dubious quality control does not make sense to me.

There's no need to take it, as there are others from more trusted drugmakers that are more effective. I'm not in a rush and will wait until a vaccine I trust will be available.

It' my preference.  Hope I can find access to the vaccine.  Should be easier considering that most Westerners also detest everything to do with China.
I look at where I live and why I moved here.  I'm not among the China-phobes.  If I had children I'd have them enrolled in Mandarin courses. 
Sorry farang but the future is not in the West.  It's in Asia, SE Asia, Central Asia, Eurasia, and China. 
When you reject their technology out of vile partisanship you're just a dupe and a fool.  It's funny.  Along the same ethnocentric lines, I still know farang expats living here who won't eat street food because "it's dirty."  I have been sick after eating here in Thailand twice in over a decade.  Never from street food.  Both times from Western multinational fast-food outlets - which are clean. Right?  Then you apply that same prejudice toward China and all Chinese people.
"Dirty Chinese!"  Considering where you live?  You may considering checking you built-in prejudices that you imported with you from your home country. 

Hey, I have an experiment.  Contact your US, UK, or EU embassy and ask them how they are going to help you! - one of their beloved citizens - get one of their own, high-quality, best-of-the-technology vaccines.  No doubt the State Department will send US citizens two personalized ampules of Moderna mRna vaccine because American exceptionalism beats all and the United States takes care of all their expatriated citizen who are spreading the word of liberty and democracy in a rules based international order.  Yeppers.  They gonna take good care of you!  You can bet on it!
 
FYI - You live on the other side of the world - in Asia.  You ought to try checking your nationalistic prejudices if you plan to continue living here.  Be a good neighbour.  Try detente.

So, Thonburi's medical centres plan to offer two vaccine injections for 3,200 baht.

 

Its pretty clear what the Thai strategy on vaccination is now. The government supplies under half for its population and the rest will need to purchase from private hospitals and clinics.

They are also ordering the Chinese vaccine which I am very surprised about but okay they are also getting a western one.

It's tricky I mean maybe the vaccine you take determines your entry to certain countries in future.

Trust is a big part of vaccines which invariable comes through clean 3rd party verified data further backed up by numerous independent international scientists 

 

The Chinese government fails in all points above, hence it is not xenophobic to simply opt for another vaccine that has had been verified  by better, cleaner more independent data.
