The woman at the center of a 40 million baht government department corruption case is set to appear in court today.

Khanitha Hoithong was arrested and held last June after 40 million baht went missing from a state account.

She has admitted siphoning off the money to her own account for the purposes of gambling.

She was released from jail on bail on September 13th after the public prosecutor failed to meet the 84 day deadline to present evidence.

Pol Col Samer U-samran of the Muang Prachuap Khiri Khan police said she would appear in court today to hear the charges of embezzlement against her.

Also set to appear are her mother Saiphim Dipdeekhum, 56, and the chief of the accounts office where Khanitha worked, a lady called Prachit Wongprapharat.

They all face charges under Section 157.

Two people involved in a gambling operation in Chiang Rai are also part of the case.

A leading campaigner against corruption Seksan Janthorn said that Prachuap Khiri Khan governor Phallop Singhaseni had ordered that Prachit be transferred from her regular duties but Seksan claimed she remained in her job.

He cited secrecy concerns after an interior ministry internal investigation was launched.
