"Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster described as "an incredible act of hostility" the decision by the EU to invoke Article 16 of the Northern Irish Protocol, which allows Britain or the EU to take unilateral action if there is an unexpected negative effect arising from the agreement."

Article 16 should only be used when required....by the DUP.

Speaking at a meeting of Westminster’s Northern Ireland Affairs Committee, the DUP’s North Antrim MP said it was time to invoke article 16 of the protocol.

Predictable attempt from you to justify the EU's actions ????

We'd all respect you more if you were prepared to say "The EU got that wrong".

Such a swift u turn makes one wonder if sitting too close to johnson for any period of time results in being infected with this type of behaviour. (sarcasm alert)

What a disgrace the EU has become. The pandemic has really shown them for what they are.

Trying to bully their way out of their self inflicted mess. Pathetic. I hope the great European nations reject this anti democratic federalist project asap.

And here is the piste de resistance, Owen Jones has said: "The EU is completely and utterly messing up the vaccines. Dire."

Finally the remainers are waking up to the incompetence of the EU.

Not what I meant, which was that we should use any and all leverage available to improve the crappy WA and so-called trade deal. That is no different to what the EU has done before and has just tried to do again.

Emmanuel Macron has said Europe will not block or ban exports of coronavirus vaccines but that they should be “controlled”, accusing AstraZeneca of a lack of transparency after the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company said it could not fulfil the whole of its contract with the EU.

Would that be one of those U-Turns? You know, like the adjustments that Boris makes in response to developing situations? Boris bashers and Euros strangely subdued about a massive and embarrassing EU-U-Turn.

The European commission’s newly drafted implementing regulation is expected to be both unveiled and come into force on Saturday with officials insisting they would now “ensure that the Ireland-Northern Ireland protocol is unaffected”.

It will be interesting to see how it works when the EU commission works out that in order to produce the vaccine it requires ingredients produced outside the EU.
