Thailand Virtual SMS Phone Number

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a cost effective virtual sms phone provider that can provide a Thai phone number.

Basically, I'd like to have a Thai phone number that I can receive and reply to SMS messages with using a browser.  I do not want to have to use a phone because I'm in the USA mostly and it would be much more convenient to use a web service. This phone number will only need to receive SMS messages.

Do you have any suggestions?  Most services I found online either don't support SMS or are like $70 a month which is more than my budget.  I'd like to pay the equivalent of $10 - $15 USD or less.

How many SMSes? Sent to just Thai numbers? Any number? Per day? How many outbound? Inbound? Why a Thai number? Will many people be sending you SMSes? Do people need to be able to reply to you?

And why a browser? And are you located in Thailand?

More details regarding your application will help get a better recommendation. Otherwise you'll just get junk.

And without that detail I'll grasp and say, use WiFi Calling from one of the three providers here. That gives you global access, with in-country/on-plan prices.

So my use case is that I’m trying to gain online access to my Thai bank account but in order to get access they want to authenticate via SMS. They won’t accept a non Thai number either.

I don’t maintain a dedicated mobile number in Thailand because I only visit 1 - 2 times a year and when I come into town I simply get a new SIM card and line for the duration of my trip.

I don’t necessarily need to be able to reply but I figure it might as well support outbound SMS in case there are other use cases I cannot anticipate now.

I was asking about a browser based solution like Google Voice style since I’d prefer to not have to configure and carry an additional device for  random usage.  I anticipate receiving SMS messages 1-2 times a month.

Thanks for providing the additional detail.

I think you're hosed.

Is it just one bank account? Which bank? They have a mobile phone number (now obsolete) associated with you account now?

Even if you were able to get a new SIM, activated, topped-up for 12 months, with international roaming and WiFi Calling enabled sent to you, there is no way to add that number to your account.

For me, with BBL and SCB, I had to make an in-person visit with passport, in order to change my mobile phone number. This is obviously a good thing. As usual (like a new passbook) this required many copies, many signatures and a dozen or so stamps.

Its just one bank account with SCM. Yes, they have the temp phone number I had from the trip when I opened my account.  Sounds like I'll have to wait until my next trip to Bangkok to sort it out.   Thanks for the info!
