Really? Remember a fella named George W. Bush. 2 disasters occurred on his watch: the 2nd  Iraq War and the near-collapse of the US economy. So, naturally his current favorability ratings stayed really low, right?

George W. Bush has turned his unpopularity upside down.

Six in 10 Americans, 61%, say they now have a favorable view of the 43rd President of the United States in the latest CNN poll conducted by SSRS, nearly double the 33% who gave him a favorable mark when he left the White House in January 2009.

Of course, Bush knows how to behave politely and decently in public. That and the tendency for bad memories to fade over time has helped him immensely. It's apparent that Trump is incapable of behaving politely and decently. So reporting on his behavior should help keep his favorability low and the memory of his dismal record strong.

Bush has a more friendly style. However, he also abused people's credulity and may well have been worse than Trump. A fake war ranks much higher on the scam meter than anything Trump did.

You got it right.  Just came out that Trump has to turn over tax returns to a New York prosecutor:

Well, he's back in the spotlight now.  Just maybe not the way he wants.

And the Feds, and Congress, even the new Senate.

From what we have seen so far from Biden I wouldn't be surprised if the Republicans made some gains in the mid-terms, Trump or no Trump.

Do you mean competence? Empathy? A strong work ethic? Reestablishing the world's respect for the US? Getting upwards of 1.7 million Americans vaccinated per day?

I can certainly understand why any of those would be anathema to people who supported the lazy, incompetent, self-serving, psychopathic, corrupt, mendacious clown that was the former (ostensible) leader.

By this time in his admin, the former had already taken a few trips to his garish place in FL at a cost to the US Taxpayer, according to CBO, of just under $7 million. By the time his abomination ended, just his golf had cost the US Taxpayer $150 million.

President Biden's approval rating is already higher than the highest level the last guy ever reached.  If Covid is under control by 2022 and the economy bottoms out, Dems are likely to crush the soon-to-be-split (R) Party in the midterms, building majorities in both the House and Senate. The new SAM Party, if it forms and posts candidates in 2022, will cannibalize from existing (R)s and leave the former guy with the QAnons and conspiratorialists, and additionally aiding (D) candidates. Given the fact primaries take place, and that those genuflecting to the former guy are likely to win (R) primaries, (D)s are going to have an easy time, just painting their opponent as a coup-supporting QAnon type, which most likely all (R) candidates will be.  That might be a solid base, but it is not a large enough base to win the majority in a vote.

The former guy will turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to (D)s, as his continued presence will insure they just continue to grow their majority.

Oh come on, must give trump credit where it is due. He reduced his golf handicap.

Because the guy they hate has been beaten, there is no need for them to obsess anymore.

Maybe try to read the OP before posting. Trump sees himself as a contender.

Trump is basically embarking on a destroy-the-Republican-Party campaign.  I hope he succeeds.  America needs to be rid of Trump and his enablers.

Be careful what you wish for. A split GOP could mean many things. Not all of them great on a national or social level. At some states it might be especially problematic. IMO, one major functions of the GOP was to sort of tone down the crazies and extremists. Giving them a roof while telling them not to make so much noise. Granted this sorta went out the window with Trump, but would rather see it go back to the same-old rather than going full retard or giving rise to "parties" which are basically platforms for extremists.

Also, if the GOP fractures, it might in turn effect the Democratic Party. If there's no big bad wolf, why stay united? If "they" (meaning right-wing extremists) are setting up shop, why can't "we" (left wing extremists) do the same?

Maybe a such fundamental changes to the USA's political landscape are good, long term. Maybe they are even necessary. Doesn't mean the process will be painless.
