Bangkok and eight other provinces with high incidence of COVID-19 infections will be the first to get inoculated with the first shipment of 200,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine from China, in an arrangement planned by the Ministry of Public Health Ministry.

The distribution arrangement is as follows:

  • Samut Sakhon, 70,000 doses. 8,000 doses for frontline medical personnel; 6,000 doses for officials in close contact with infected patients; 46,000 doses for those with congenital diseases and 10,000 doses for the general public.
  •
  • Bangkok, 66,000 doses. 12,400 doses for medical personnel; 1,600 doses for officials in close contact with patients; 47,000 doses for those with congenital diseases and 5,000 doses for the general public.

Hopefully, although we are in a high-risk area and Madam is a high-risk patient the numbers of doses are so small we won't be offered it.

Ghana has become the first country to receive coronavirus vaccines through the Covax vaccine-sharing initiative.

A delivery of 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in Accra on Wednesday. The first recipients are due to be healthcare workers.

"Bangkok, 66,000 doses. 12,400 doses for medical personnel; 1,600 doses for officials in close contact with patients; 47,000 doses for those with congenital diseases and 5,000 doses for the general public."

Can anyone remind me of the population of Bangkok?

Can anyone remind me of the population of Bangkok?

Can anyone remind me what percentage of the population must be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity?

95% is often cited and 200,000 doses is likely to vaccinate far less people. So the danger of community infection in these provinces will remain high, especially by creating a false impression of community invulernability to the virus.

Might do better to apply 200,000 doses in one province with a small population, ie., 210,000.
