SURAT THANI (NNT) - The Minister of Justice has traveled to Surat Thani to promote understanding on the growing and use of Kratom, following the Senate passing a draft Narcotics Act that has struck the plant from the nation’s list of illegal drugs.

Minister of Justice Somsak Thepsutin headed a meeting on Ministry policies in Surat Thani attended by relevant agencies and village elders from 135 local communities. The intent of the meeting was to spread understanding on Kratom’s new status off the country’s list of criminal narcotics. He clarified that once the law comes into effect, traditional chewing and consumption of the plant will be allowed as long as it is not combined with other narcotics. Supplemental laws are being drafted on the growing, application and commercial usage of the plant.

The minister afterwards visited a Kratom growing facility in Baan Na Sarn district, one of 135 planned areas where the crop is to be cultivated, to speak with local people.

Everyone round here chews the stuff occasionally, well, the people who work physically. Grows wild. Don't know anyone who cultivates it as a money crop. You just get guys stopping by some tree, clambering up, and picking a few leaves. Wondered what was going on until my SO explained it to me. Never tried it myself, stick to my drugs of choice - black coffee, nicotine, and alcohol; last thing I need is another addiction.

The best workers are the ones that chew on it. You will get more productivity out of a 60 year old on it than a 20 year old who isn’t.
It doesn’t do all that much in my experience, I took a triple dose and the effects were fairly mild.
My next door neighbor has a big tree, he is the hardest working person I have ever seen. Farmer, builder, fisherman, he never stops. Up at 4 am everyday, has it for breakfast.
