I think there should be another referendum.

Brexit, and especially the way the Scottish people voted in that referendum, has

made the UK and union a different place to what it was at the time of the original

independence vote.

I would imagine the outcome would be far closer, but it would have to be a hell of a swing

to make a convincing case for leaving, but if 52% is enough to leave the EU, then it should

be enough for independence.

The latest poll is showing 52% against Independence, and that will go higher once the Parliamentary Committee's findings are published in relation to the Scottish Government cover ups in  the Salmond case.????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Everybody is assuming that Scotland does want independence and this is clearly not the case. The only people that want independence are the SNP, the Scots have clearly stated that they wish to remain

  • I am a unionist, but am also a democrat. So I believe in an option that is missing from above; that it is up to the Scottish people to decide at a time of their choosing, not Westminster's.

  • Hey the Scots had their turn only 5 years ago. Why can't they give the English a vote if we still want killy krankie and her ilk with us. Sure it would be an overwhelming landslide to kick them out.

Scotland should be independant, so should Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, and anyone else

that finds Westminster devious and treacherous. I have put forward plans for independance

for Essex, the reply was 'One thing at a time', probably to humour me, but I remain adamant.

I've answered all your relevant points despite your deflections.

The last referendum was before the uk left the EU, against the wishes of The Scots.

Circumstances are different now and people should be allowed to vote on whether they accept these or wish to leave the union.

Many have changed their view since brexit.

Why are you so afraid of a referendum?

Oh and do leave the fascist hyperbole out of this...that's just project fear nonsense...

It wasn't ignored....Scotland remained part of the UK.

I don't have a opinion either way but seems to me that to give independence of a country that has its foremost two leaders squabbling like a couple of spoilt brats over some personal slight would just be downright irresponsible.

but you do have an opinion either way. You dont think scots should decide what they want.

Yes, let them become independent

It's no different to Cambodia being independent from Thailand

As long as Scotland isn't then included in foreign aid list that is..

Hmm, now what do you call someone  who refuses to allow nation a vote on their independence but instead binds them to a union they no longer wish to be a part of?

Not wanting to sound repetitive, I know because the Scots have already voted to remain and why are you trying to deny the will of the majority of Scots that have already taken a vote on this matter and decided to remain, you are not being very democratic now are you. Can you not go with the will of the Scots and not the nationalists who are in the minority.

So what. Put it to a vote and let them decide after such a huge change.

Its up to them. To stay or not should be up to no one but them.

Not by the SNPs choice, if it was up to Sturgeon to break away from the English she would be away faster than a rat up a drainpipe.

Another country refusing a country a democratic right to vote is undemocratic. How odd.

They voted to remain in eu.

Simple really. Let them vote on whether they want to be part of a uk that isnt part of the eu.

You do realise the last vote was to stay with a uk that was part of the eu dont u.

Snp has nothing to do with it. Why would you think those wanting to leave the uk follow the snp?

Would not be surprised if everyone leaves eventually.  Could end up being the country of London at some point.

Oh I do understand, I really do...the Scots did not wish to leave the EU, let them decide now if the uk is really where they want to be.

Strange situation; the Scots wanted to stay in EU and now they stay  with UK ; for me it's normal that there is a referendum, but one question : can Scotland live by it self, on an economic point of view ? do they have industry, commerce etc ?

I am French, and I know that for instance many people in Antilles ( Guadeloupe, Martinique ) or New Caledonia would like to get rid of France, but every referendum says that majority wants to stay ; not stupid, they know that apart from tourism, they have nothing, they need money from the " mère patrie " ;

and Scotland ?

Incorrect. Sure, it is up to Scotland to decide if they want independence. However, under what terms is a decision for the whole of the UK. I believe the parliament of UK is in Westminster. Therefore it has a lot to do with Wesminster.

I assume the Scots will carry the cost of their referendum themselves, and the Brexiteers don't even have to get out of bed to vote.

So then I really wonder why the Brits on this forum, which by coincidence happen to be the same hardcore Brexiteers, are so afraid of allowing the Scots their referendum, when they are so confident that they will vote remain anyway? Woosh there I used that word that works like a red cloth on Brexiteers.

Sure I must be missing something

And if the majority once again vote "No", how long before you're back on here whining again.  In another 5 years generation?

What is up to Westminster in your opinion, whether they want to leave or under what terms they're allowed to leave?

I think only if in those 5 years the UK has decided to rejoin the EU, or another major decision affecting the future that much has been taken.

Frightened of what another referendum might bring Vogie?

Surely you, the other Brexiteers, the English and British nationalist will be able to present an overwhelming argument for remaining in the UK if its as good as you think it is.

Its odd isn't it? You Brexiteers were warned voting for Brexit risked the union but you went ahead anyway. This is what you voted for but now you dont want to face the consequences of your actions?

Couldn't care less anymore and I have a house there. The constant bleating for more money and independence gets very boring

Then if we are such a burden give us a referendum.

Oh no wait. For some reason all you Brexiteers love the idea of sovereignty and taking back control but only when it suits your own purposes.

BTW. Have a look at the real figures. England is going broke and without Scotlands resources it will be even worse.

The Scottish people did not get the facts. Remember the new oil field discovery that was kept secret by the BBC?

The only people that don't want it are the ones scared of their own pensions, selfish ****s

Newcastle is an area of the UK just as the same as Scotland, we all belong to the same island nation, see I told you you wouldn't get it.

Newcastle is an area of the UK the same as Scotland?

Does Newcastle have its own laws, government and a long history of independence?

Is England a region of the UK or is it a country?

Think carefully Vogie. That question is a bear trap.
